I’ll be happy to exercise and explore and play all day long, followed by lots of affectionate cuddles and snuggles. In between, I’m eager to learn and to show you how smart I am. I might seem shy when we first meet, but once we bond, I will be your loyal friend forever. I understand what it means to be part of a loving family, and I can’t wait to share my zest for life with you. I hope you want that too.

I’m a darling, 1 year old, 41-pound sweetheart, with an expressive face and ears, a beautiful, bright smile, soft fur, and a spunky, good-natured, delightful personality. I’m already mostly housebroken and crate trained, too, although please stay patient with me when we get home. I have been through a lot of change and instability lately, and an adjustment period is perfectly normal. If you keep me on a schedule, it will help to set me up for success. I was first transferred to Wayside as a wee pup from a rural shelter in New Mexico that didn’t have space for me. I was quickly adopted, and I’ve had a good life. Sadly, my family found themselves no longer able to give me the time and attention that I crave and deserve. I understand, but I miss them. And the big shelter felt confusing, lonely, and worrisome. As you might guess, I was thrilled when Foster Mom came into my life. She took me home, making me feel special and loved, while teaching me manners and boundaries along the way. Ah, that feels nice. I will never take the comforts of home for granted.

I’m a young and energetic dog who will thrive with attention, structure, and a routine that I can count on. I’m comforted and more relaxed when I have another dog around, and I will need to go home with another friendly, playful dog. In my foster home, I stay in my crate when no one is home, up to 8 hours a day a couple times a week. I am fine in my crate when the other dog is home with me, but I feel anxious when he is gone to a vet appointment or other outing. At night, we both get to sleep in Foster Mom’s bed, where I sleep peacefully through the night, cuddling close whenever possible. I’m generally well behaved in the house, but I’m curious, too, so sometimes I find things to get into. Foster Mom keeps an eye on me, which helps me stay focused and out of trouble. I try so hard to be a good girl and I’m doing great!

I’ve learned so much during a short couple of weeks in my foster home. I’m learning to sit when a door is opened, instead of trying to bolt out. And I’m figuring out that not all visitors want to be greeted with a happy, excited jump. I love to play whenever possible, but when my other family members are worn out, I will entertain myself with my toys or chew bones or by chasing a ball around the house. I love all toys! Sometimes I just curl up and take a nap like the rest of the family. Foster Mom calls me an enthusiastic cuddler. I immediately made myself at home, crawling up in her lap whenever she allows and giving kisses to all my friends. I like to live my life in an enthusiastic, exuberant way. I bark at times, but not excessively, I don’t mind taking baths, and I try hard to be everyone’s best friend. That’s how I roll.

I love to play outside, and I would enjoy having a fenced yard to expend some energy and explore off leash. I enjoy going for daily walks too, though! I pull on my leash, especially at the beginning, but I calm down as my walk continues. I’m friendly and excited to meet and greet new people or other dogs along the way. I absolutely adore the other dog I live with in foster! He has taught me so much, he comforts me, and I watch his cues for guidance and direction. I like to play chase or wrestle, and sometimes he can’t keep up with my energy, but I’m excellent at adjusting my playstyle to his, and I’m learning to take breaks when he’s done playing. I also live with a confident, dog savvy cat in my foster home. I’m curious about her and I’m dying to be friends, but I never chase or nip at her, and we get along just fine.

My previous family included kids under the age of 6, and said that I was sweet and friendly with them. I can be nervous around new people at times, though, especially men, and I will need to meet the whole family, including kids and other dogs, before we all go home together, to make sure that we’re a good match. Mostly, I simply want to be an important and involved member of my new family. I want to be right in the middle of all the action!

Sometimes life throws you a curveball, but I refuse to let that get me down. I have so much to offer, and my future is bright. I want to cuddle and play and hang out a little each day. I can’t wait to be part of a family again, with everything that goes along with that. I want to be by your side through all of it, your constant companion. Always. Let me show you how it feels to be loved unconditionally. That’s what I do best.

Love, Freya
