Franklin's Story

NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS FOR ADOPTERS:
-NO APARTMENTS.
-PREFERABLY ANOTHER DOG IN THE HOUSEHOLD.
-FRANK IS NOT HYPOALLERGENIC. HE SHEDS.
-****MUST SUBMIT AN APPLICATION THROUGH VOLS4PAW.COM (NOT PETFINDER) BEFORE WE CAN MOVE FORWARD IN THE ADOPTION PROCESS. PLEASE READ ENTIRE BIO****

Link to application: https://www.vols4paws.com/applications

Franklin is a 3 year old Lab/Poodle mix that was surrendered to us when his family decided they no longer wanted a dog. He was kept outside in his previous (only former home), which is a shame, since Franklin is a PERFECT family dog.

Franklin is fantastic with kids, other dogs, and everyone he meets. His former home had 5 kids ages 4-14 and he did great with all of them. We would prefer a home with kids over 6 years old, just due to Franklin's size. Everyone who meets Frank points out what an incredible addition he would make to a family. He is the exact type of dog that would bond with every family member and be a great companion for respectful children.

He is currently in a foster home with 7 other dogs. Ranging from 6 week old puppies with disabilities to full grown pitbulls. He does great with all of them. He has shown 0 aggression with food, toys, people or unfamiliar dogs. He loves to play in the yard and would love a home with a fenced in yard. Franklin is a big dog (75 lbs.) and will NOT be adopted to anyone who lives in an apartment. He loves to play in the yard, especially with the other bigger dogs. He gets the zoomies and loves to sprint around the yard while the other dogs chase him. Frank does bark at loud buses and trucks that drive by and barks if someone knocks. Other than that he is not a vocal dog. Frank is very smart and learned sit and shake in no time.

Frank is fine in the car and has never had any issue in one. Since he gets the majority of his exercise at his foster's house, Franklin is rarely leashed. When he is, he wears a gentle leader harness. His leash walking could use some work, he is a strong dog and will pull. Luckily, the gentle leader takes care of this for the most part. He has been on a few short hikes with the gentle leader and has a blast! He can hold his own and would be a great dog to take hiking. Franklin will need a family prepared to make sure he gets plenty of exercise.

Frank's foster has a dog door, so he always has access to the backyard. He is potty trained, never had an accident. He sleeps on a cot at the foot of his foster's bed. He has never attempted to get on the bed and does not have any interest in doing so. He will curl up on the couch if given the opportunity. Franklin is not currently crated when home alone. He has free roam of the house and access to the dog door, along with 2 of his foster's dogs. The only thing to worry about with Franklin is trash cans. He loves to knock them over and dig through the trash (only when no one is home). His foster simply puts the trash can up out of his reach and he is perfectly fine.

Franklin is a labradoodle but FRANK DOES SHED!!!! HE IS NOT HYPOALLEGENIC!!! That is what happens when you mix a poodle and labrador. 50/50 shot at getting the Lab's shedding genes. Please understand that Frank will need regular brushing and grooming for the rest of his life.

Franklin is completely healthy and very active. He does have skin allergies/dandruff and can get itchy if he is not fed a proper diet. We suggest Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin or Zignature. This food is more expensive than the average food. Please ensure you are able/willing to feed Franklin the appropriate food.

He just recently (1/14/22) received a cytopoint (allergy) shot. We are hoping this will relieve some of his itching and will update his profile when enough time has passed to determine if the cytopoint has made any difference. If the cytopoint does help, his adopters would need to see a vet to have the cytopoint administered once every couple of months. If you are in the Knoxville area we can set it up at our vet (Gentle Dr.) and you could just swing by and get the shot (without paying the normal appointment fee that you would at a general vet). The shot is around $100. Please ensure this is something you are both able and willing to pay for.

Frank is fully vetted. He is neutered, UTD on shots, heartworm negative, microchipped, UTD on preventatives, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $500. We require a home visit, references, and signed adoption contract.

Franklin is in a foster home in Knoxville, TN. We have a volunteer in the Boone, NC area as well. So transport to Boone can easily be arranged. We consider out of state adoptions, but Franklin will have to be picked up and driven to his new home. Flying a dog his size is not something we permit.

**Please understand that Franklin is a doodle. We expect a lot of interest in Franklin. We have over 7 dogs in our care and 2 volunteers. In the past, doodles have raked in hundreds of apps in days. We can not possibly get back to everyone instantly. WE CAN NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE SUBMITTED AN APPLICATION!!!!! PLEASE DO NOT REACH OUT UNTIL YOUR APPLICATION IS SUBMITTED TO US SO THAT WE CAN REFERENCE IT. We will review all the apps we receive and we will reach out if we feel you might be a good fit for Franklin to talk further and set up a meet & greet.**

Link to app:
https://www.vols4paws.com/applications
