Franklin's Story

Mini Aussie lovers...

Meet Franklin: A goofy, sweet, shy velcro dog ready to become your soul-dog.

This 5 year old Miniature American Shepherd was rescued from a puppy mill, along with over 420 other neglected dogs. He was kept in a concrete pen his whole life, and is finally learning to love for the first time. Frankie came to us very fearful of human touch, but now cannot get enough of it!

Though this 23 lb boy is still skittish around strangers, he genuinely tries his best to come out of his shell. He went from never having touched grass or wearing a collar, to playing in the fields and walking on a leash. He went from getting scruffed and tossed by human hands to gentle pets. He is marking indoors less often, but still working on housebreaking. He is still intact, and marking may subside after he's neutered.

He's a work in progress, and looking for someone willing to invest the time he needs to shine: Someone who won't give up, and knows the battle is uphill. He is absolutely worth the effort, but has PTSD and separation anxiety. He sometimes cries in the middle of the night, and barks in fear when you leave him alone.

Despite his history, he is very food driven and naturally curious. He loves other dogs his size (he was scared of a 50 lb female husky), and has even been teaching the other puppy mill dogs to come out of their shells. He has not been tested with cats, and would do best in a mature, quiet, patient home without young kids.

He is as sweet as can be, but not an easy dog for a first-time owner. Experience rehabilitating puppy mill survivors or abused dogs is needed. Want to gain experience and live local to Austin? Ask us about fostering!

He loves his people and bonds strongly: he might be small and flashy-looking, but please only apply if you are serious, and understand he will need love, patience, and training to live up to his full potential. He did come from a puppy mill as a disposable breeder dog, living outdoors in appalling conditions. His teeth are rotted, he was shaved on intake due to severe matting, and he'll be neutered at first available appointment. He will officially be available for adoption after his neuter surgery.

We do accept out of state applications, but adopters are responsible for expenses related to transport. We adopt to the US (including Hawaii) and Canada. He is currently in Austin, Tx.

To see more videos of Franklin, follow us on Instagram @herdinghomerescue

To apply to adopt Franklin, apply via our website, HerdingHomeRescue.com/adopt

NOTE: We only accept inquiries via our website, NOT Petfinder.
