Frankie's Story

Howdy, everyone!! My name is Frankie, and I bet you're wondering what I'm doing on a cocker spaniel rescue page, since it's pretty obvious I'm not a cocker. The sad part of my story is that someone left me alone in a dog park at an apartment complex in north Houston in late July. Although I was found with a collar, I had no tags and no microchip. The really nice couple who found me couldn't bear to leave me out there in the heat, and although they tried diligently to find my owners with flyers and via various social media avenues, they weren't able to.

This is the part of the story where my luck really turned around, because as it turns out, my finders adopted an 'honorary cocker' (ie a cocker mix) from GCCSR about 2.5 years ago. They reached out to GCCSR for ideas/help, and provided they agreed to be my 'foster family,' GCCSR agreed to name ME an honorary cocker as well!! How cool is that?!

My first stop was the vet clinic. They estimate me to be about a year old and weighed me in at 37 pounds. My heartworm and fecal tests were negative, and I got an overall clean bill of health. The nice lady there said it does seem like I was being cared for and that this likely isn't my first time being vaccinated, although she can't say for sure. I've been neutered and have a microchip, so by early September, I'll be ready for adoption.

My foster mom brags about me, stating that I'm 'soooo adoptable.' She reports that I'm very sweet toward people and dogs, and that I'd be an excellent pup for someone with the time and space for me. She says I've been really good with the other dogs I've met, and thinks I'd thrive with another dog my size to play with. The smaller dog I live with in my foster home doesn't always appreciate that I want to play... A LOT... and doesn't understand that I can be a little clumsy because I'm so young. As of yet, I haven't met any cats or children, but my overall demeanor has been described as very friendly.

I crave affection and attention and have an equal affinity for toys/playtime/walks as well as cuddles/naptime. My foster mom tells me I'm very smart and eager to please, having made quick progress on kennel training and leash walking. I'm very curious, and extremely food motivated, which really helps with training on basic commands. Because of all of these things, coupled with my medium energy level, GCCSR says I'd very much benefit from continued guidance and training from a family with as much love to give as I offer.

In the spirit of full disclosure, at this time, when not supervised, it's in my best interests to be kenneled as I'm still learning not to chew/eat things that might harm me but I've taken well to the kennel and never have accidents in there unless I'm left for an extended period of time (such as a long work day over 8 hours long).

All in all, despite my rough start at life, I'm a really good boy who will make a great, loving, appreciative companion for the right family. If you think you might be that family, please submit an application to adopt me here: https://www.gulfcoastcockerspanielrescue.com/2020-adoption-application-captcha.php.

I can't wait to meet my forever family!! Thanks for reading about me! 8/29/23 1:57 PM
