Focaccia's Story

Hi there, I’m Focaccia. My brothers and I — the Bread Boys — came from a hoarding case in New York. Because of that, we were badly neglected and spent our early lives scared and unsure of the world. But luckily, since coming here to Yankee, we’ve slowly been gaining confidence and learning that people can be kind. I may still be quite nervous, but I want to interact with people; I’m just not always sure how yet. I’m hoping a patient family will take me in and gently teach me what it means to be loved and cared for.

Since I’m a bit of a flight risk and don’t have any leash skills yet, I absolutely need a secure fenced-in yard where I can safely explore the world around me. I also must have another confident dog in the home — not just as a preference, but as something I truly rely on. I learn by watching other dogs, and having a steady, social dog friend helps me feel safe and brings out my playful side. I’ve been known to get crazy zoomies around the yard, and nothing would make me happier than a dog buddy who can join in!

Patience and love (and a few treats!) are the best way to earn my trust. I’ve recently become brave enough to take treats from some staff and volunteers’ hands! I’m still figuring out what it means to be pet, though, so I’m hoping you’ll go at my pace with that.

I’m looking for a calm, safe place with a family who understands I need time to warm up and learn how to be a dog. To thrive, I need a secure fenced-in yard, a patient and understanding home, and — absolutely — a confident dog friend to guide me. If you can offer those things, I just might be the perfect pup for you.

Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue's Adoption Policy
An adopter applies on our website. The application is sent to our application specialist who assigns a volunteer to call vet or personal references. After the reference check, a home visit volunteer will set up a time to visit the home or do a virtual tour of the home to make sure it is appropriate for a dog. Once they complete their visit the report is sent to our adoption team for approval and the potential adopter is then contacted or can contact us to inquire about dogs.
