My suits me perfectly because I'm a sweet girl who is learning to bloom again. I'm a 5-year-old, 53-pound Chocolate Lab Retriever mix, spayed and ready for a peaceful furever home. I came to The Animal Pad from a hoarding situation in Mexico, and I've been through a lot, but I'm discovering how wonderful it is to be a loved and spoiled dog.

I'm a very loving, curious, and snuggly girl with plenty of classic Lab personality. I love exploring, figuring things out, and spending time with my people, whether we're doing something together or simply relaxing. I have a playful side and enjoy about an hour of varied play and mental enrichment throughout the day, followed by some very important nap time. And water? Oh, I LOVE water! Hoses, kiddie pools, misting, ponds, the beach-I'm ready to make a splash! I'm also a strong chewer and love safe, durable toys and puzzles that give me something to figure out. Once I'm comfortable, I'll happily roll over for belly rubs, ear scratches, booty scritches, and a good massage.

I'm looking for a home where I can be the one and only pet. I'm curious about cats and may want to investigate or chase them, and I've barked at the neighbor dog through the fence, so a dog-free home will help me settle in. I find kids fascinating and enjoy watching them, but a home without children would be best for me because loud, chaotic environments can be overwhelming. I can also be nervous around new people and unfamiliar things, although treats are a wonderful way to introduce me to someone new! Once I realize something isn't a threat, I settle down and become interested in checking it out.

I'm doing well with my training and am fully crate trained-my crate has become my own little private fort, and I'm comfortable sleeping there or hanging out while my people are away. I don't have separation anxiety and have done well alone once I'm acclimated. I know that outside is where I should potty and understand commands, but I do have some spay-related incontinence and may occasionally leak, so having a backup potty area inside and keeping me on a good water schedule will help. I'm also learning leash manners; I may pull when something catches my interest, but I'm responsive to redirection and eager to learn. I'm very food motivated, which makes treats a great training tool!

Because of my past, certain strange noises or chaotic environments can cause me to cower or retreat, and I may need several hours to fully recover. I'm also healing from muscle atrophy in my hind legs, so I still have some difficulty jumping onto or off furniture. Easy access to beds and couches, along with gentle exercise and stretches, will help me continue getting stronger. My vision and hearing can also become more easily compromised when I'm stressed, so a calm, predictable environment is important for me.

My perfect home is a mellow, peaceful place with patient people who will let me settle in at my own pace. A yard would be wonderful, and if you happen to have safe access to water, I'd probably think I'd won the jackpot! Most of all, I want people who will give me the chance to experience all the simple joys I've been waiting for-sniffing, exploring, playing, lounging, getting belly rubs, and being someone's beloved dog.

I've been through some tough seasons, but I'm ready for my spring. If you have room in your heart for a gentle girl who just wants to bloom into her happiest self, come meet me and let's grow our furever!

The Animal Pad's Adoption Policy
We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane. Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational. All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times. All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise. Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000. Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc. Adoption Application: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/
