Fletcher's Story

Meet Fletcher! He is a happy, sweet, well-rounded fella. One of those rare dogs that truly is the whole package and would fit nicely into a wide array of families.

Temperament - Sweetheart alert! This guy is a lover through and through. He's submissive, but his confidence has grown over the last year, and he's really enjoying life. There are a few scenarios that bring out his shy side, but really he's just a ray of sunshine!

People - Fletcher is a people pleaser. Good with adults, kids, men, women, and strangers. Does great in public. He can get overwhelmed if it's incredibly crowded/noisy, but recovers quickly with encouragement and quiet breaks.

Dogs - Submissive, respectful, and good-natured. He gets along with everyone he meets and particularly loves females. He has met dogs as tiny as a Yorkie and as big as a German Shepherd. Of course, as with any new dog introduction - always go slow for the best outcomes for everyone.

Cats - Green light! Fletch does not interfere, harass, or chase kitties. He even cuddles with one of his current housemates.

Energy level - Moderate perfection. He's over his terrible teens and settled into the best age! Enjoys engaging in family activities (playing, adventures, walks, etc), but also settles easily. He is a HUGE cuddle bug!

Training - Eager to please & very praise oriented. Crate trained. Has been taught not to jump. Doesn't bark much and quiets if given command. Knows basic obedience plus additional.

Loves - Car rides, adventures, playing with people and dogs, cuddling, peanut butter, and toys (tug ropes, chews, stuffies - everything is fair game!). We think he would make a phenomenal family dog, adventure pal, or bestie for a moderate energy household.

Fears - Isn't the biggest fan of having his nails trimmed, but the groomer is able to fully service back paws and clip front (but not yet graduated to filing the front). He's also a little scared of thunder and will shake and want to be near his humans. It's not an intense anxiety, but the poor baby needs a hug.

You may ask, "Gosh, why is this great guy being rehomed?!". Unfortunately, his current home is too overwhelming for his best mental health. With 2 teen dogs (one being rather dominant and VERY barky), a high energy teen cat wreaking havoc with the others, and an owner experiencing new medical needs - he is hiding under the bed and showing signs of unhappiness and discomfort daily. The environment is not one where he can fully relax, enjoy himself, and live his best life. So we're reaching out to other dog lovers in hopes that one of their homes will be!

Gilmore Gardens Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
We do things a little differently at Gilmore Dog Rescue! Instead of a traditional application, we use a simple intake form and a foster waiver (release of liability) to get started. Here’s how to become the proud new parent of one of our beloved Gilmore Guests: 1. Schedule a Meet & Greet *must live in Charlotte, NC**** Reach out via email or text to set up a meet and greet with Antonio, Shelley, or the foster parent of the dog you’re interested in. We require an in-home visit to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for the dog. Before your visit, please email your veterinary reference(s) to shelley@gilmoredogrescue.com ******** Once Shelley approves your references and the dog is comfortable in your home, you’ll move into the Foster-to-Adopt stage. 2. Foster-to-Adopt Trial This trial period gives everyone—humans and pups—a chance to make sure it’s the right fit. It’s especially important if there are other pets, children, or elderly family members in the home. ****We do not allow same-day adoptions. Every dog must go through this foster process to help ensure it’s a forever home. 3. Final Adoption The length of the foster trial varies and will be discussed with a Gilmore Dog Rescue representative based on the dog’s needs and your situation. Once you’re fully committed to adoption, a representative will return for a final wellness check. The adoption fee is $250, and Shelley will send over the final adoption paperwork for legal transfer. And just like that, you’re officially a Gilmore Dog parent!
