Firestick

Tiny Firestick came from a 52 dog hoarding confiscation from a trailer home in the Central Valley. Rescuers took all the female dogs - most of whom were nursing puppies or pregnant - off the property the first day and went back the second day to snag the eight remaining male dogs. One volunteer was walking around the yard which was full of garbage. He poked a pile of rotting mattresses aside with his foot - and in a hole dug under the disintegrating foam chunks was a litter of 2 day old puppies. These turned out to be Firestick's babies. This clever resourceful little girl had hidden her pups to keep them safe. Reunited with her babies, Firestick traveled to Oregon. She weighed 9 pounds and was the fiercest mother ever!<br/>Firestick's babies are now weaned, and Firestick has been spayed and is ready to find an active lifetime family home. This is NOT a lap potato - although she definitely enjoys a good warm lap. Firestick loves to run and hiking is one of her favorite hobbies. She is house and crate trained and walks well on leash. She has off-leash hiked as well, although she does have a strong desire to explore and hunt for small critters. <br/>Firestick is still shy and will need adopters experienced in socializing and providing strong support to an ex-hoarding dog. But she is super smart and learns quickly.<br/>Firestick is in foster care in the Portland area. Her adoption fee is $200.
