Firecracker's Story

Firecracker must have experienced heartbreak in her past because she’s very choosy about who she gives her heart too. She will require multiple scheduled visits before she decides you’re worth her investment. If you’re willing to put in the time, she’s willing to give you a chance.
**Please call to schedule an appointment to meet Firecracker.**

Firecracker is a 3 ½ year old female German Shepherd mix who came to us as a stray from the Washington County Gamelands.
While she’s still learning that humans aren't so bad, once she trusts you its game over - she blossoms into the best Velcro dog anyone could ask for! She often gives her favorite people hugs and shows her excitement with bum-wiggling zoomies, wanting nothing more than to spend her day with them.

Despite being wary of new people, Firecracker is very energetic, strong, and loves to play. Her favorite toys have squeakers, but she’ll play with anything, especially stuffies! She enjoyed romping in the recent snow; burying her face and blowing snow like a whale spouts water and her snow-zoomies were Oscar worthy. She’s a water-dog, too, looking forward to warm weather and playing in the puppy pool. We couldn’t keep her out of it last summer!

To help this young lady open up to more people, she has regular dates with a trainer. It’s hard to tell who enjoys these session more, the trainer or Firecracker. Because she loves to “work” almost as much as she loves to play, Firecracker would benefit from a family that will work with her, teaching her new cues, and reviewing those she already mastered. Firecracker is already crate trained.

Firecracker has very strong opinions about what she likes and doesn’t like. She does NOT like cats, other dogs, the vet.

Firecracker would need to be the only pet in an adult only home. She would also need to meet all members of the home (and those who visit regularly) before she could go home. A home visit before adoption might help her adjust to new surroundings.

Intake Date: 7/9/2025

This dog is available for adoption at the Butler County Humane Society
1015 Evans City Rd
Renfrew, PA 16053
Kennel License #1526

APPLY HERE: https://butlercountyhs.org/dog-adoption-application/

Butler County Humane Society's Adoption Policy
Our adoption process is quite thorough. We require potential adopters to fill out an application. This application includes listing if they rent or own their home, we verify that they either own or have permission to adopt from landlord they rent from. We require all current animals in the house to be up to date on all required vaccinations and spayed/neutered prior to adopting from us. They must provide a veterinary reference if they have owned an animal in the past 5 yrs so we can verify they were not negligent pet parents. We also require two references (must not live in same household, and only 1 can be a family member). We conduct dog intro's here at the facility to ensure our animals are going home to a welcome environment. Sometimes multiple visits are needed. We also ask them if they have any topics they are concerned about or need more information about.
