Finley: Male cocker spaniel puppy (blind)'s Story
Finley is a precious, male Cocker Spaniel puppy born Sept 3, 2025 who was surrendered to our care due to being blind

Finley has been neutered on March 10, and has now completed all of his vetting. He will be ready to join his forever home anytime after March 17th

Finley is a friendly, confident, and adventurous young pup who doesn’t let his blindness slow him down one bit. He approaches the world with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a whole lot of heart. Whether he’s exploring the yard, playing with canine friends, or seeking out his humans, Finley brings joy everywhere he goes.

View Finley's complete album of videos and photos here https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.803742752276353&type=3

** MANDATORY Finley requires another suitable canine companion in his home -and a fully fenced yard for him to safely explore supervised. Finley has been on leashed outings but he is still very nervous on these walks and therefore we are seeking a home with a fenced yard -mandatory-for him to feel safe and confident while he builds his confidence on walks.

He is able to manage going up stairs, but cannot go down steps. His new family will need to be able to carry him down stairs. His expected adult weight will be approx 25lbs

All inground pools must be fully fenced for safety-no exceptions
Dog doors are not permitted

Adoption Fee REDUCED to $500 due to Finley's blindness (reg $850) -includes vaccinations, microchip, neuter surgery, deworming, flea/tick/heartworm prevention and all vet care, food and supplies during their time with us.
We have also spent quite a lot on Finley's ophthalmology appts, testing and assessments.

Energy Level: Medium
Crate Trained: Yes
Housetrained: In progress
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Cats: Yes
Good with People: Absolutely!
Special Needs: Blind

Daily Routine
Finley enjoys fully supervised outdoor sessions throughout the day to explore, sniff, and play. He goes out after each meal and several times between, with outings spaced every 2–3 hours. Inside, he is learning the rules of the home, settling nicely in his crate at night after a few minutes of fussing.

Training & Behaviour
Finley is blind, but maps spaces quickly and confidently. His foster home keeps pathways consistent, floors clear, and uses verbal cues to help him navigate. Commands like “This way, this way, this way” help direct him, while “Careful!” warns of obstacles. He learns quickly and adapts beautifully.
Food Motivation: Extremely! This will help tremendously with training.

Commands: Work in progress

House Training: Ongoing. He does well when taken out on schedule but doesn’t yet signal on his own.

Chewing: Like any teething puppy, everything seems chewable. Redirection to toys and chews works well.

Touch Handling: Playful when handling during the day; relaxed handling is easiest when he’s sleepy for grooming, ear cleaning/nail trims.

Separation: Finley is comfortable alone for short periods (up to 3 hours) and has shown no signs of separation anxiety.

Leash Skills: Work in progress.

Social Skills
With Dogs: Finley loves every dog he meets! He can be a bit rough in play due to puppyhood but responds well to canine corrections and has spent time with smaller and much larger breeds, doing well with everyone.

Cats-Not recommended. Finley has started to persistently chase the dog savvy cat in his foster home and is not taking cues from the cat, therefore he is seeking a home without any cats.

With People: Everyone is a new best friend! He greets both in-home and outside visitors with happy enthusiasm.

Medical Notes
Finley saw Dr Barboza, an opthamologist, for a thorough assessment and testing for his blindness. For anyone seriously interested in adopting Finley, we are more than happy to send the full report to your vet clinic to discuss further with your vet.

The primary assessment is anterior segment dysgenesis, a congenital malformation of both eyes, leading to blindness.
Secondary glaucoma is questionable. The measured intraocular pressures are elevated but are suspected to be factitiously high due to the structural abnormalities of the cornea and anterior chamber.
Microphthalmia (small eye) is noted in the left eye.
The patient does not currently appear to be in pain or discomfort from his ocular condition.
***No medications needed.

Finley returned for two additional reassessments to ensure that his eyes are both stable and no further treatment is recommended at this time.

His adoptive family will need to have their vet monitor for any changes as he matures.

Transportation
Finley travels well in a crate and may fuss briefly before settling in for a nap.

Strengths
Adapts quickly to new environments

Excellent at locating people by voice

Social, gentle, and eager to bond

Playful and brave

Sweet, affectionate, and loves being with his “pack”

Ideal Adoptive Home
Finley will thrive in a home that:

Has experience with blind dogs or is committed to learning and supporting his needs

Has someone home during the day for his feeding and potty schedule as with all puppies

Will continue his training and provide a safe, consistent environment

Children must be dog savvy, respectful and over 10 yrs

Why You’ll Love Him
Finley is an incredible puppy—sweet, adventurous, and endlessly good-natured. He loves to explore and play, but once he’s tired, he’s perfectly content to curl up beside you for a nap. He is happiest when he’s close to his people and will be a devoted companion to the lucky family who adopts him.

Our adoption fees do not completely cover the costs incurred by our rescue including rising vet expenses, food, supplies and transportation
Anyone questioning adoption fees is invited to call your vet for a quote on providing everything that is done for our dogs prior to their adoptions.

Interested in adopting a puppy?
Please read below for more information.

We often have puppies looking for forever homes — but only the right homes that are able to meet the needs of a young puppy for life.

At Hobo Haven Rescue, we are committed to finding only the very best families for our pups.
