Fern - Puppy 's Story

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas or North Central Texas area.

NAME: Fern
GENDER: Female (Spayed)
AGE: About 5 Months (as of mid January)
WEIGHT: About 6.5 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Good with other small dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Should be great with children (8 years and older)

Meet one of the newest CRT puppies – Fern! This little cutie is brave and loves adventure. She is affectionate and will easily win your heart with her charm and sweet nature!

Fern was an owner surrender. She was rescued from a home with an elderly owner who had more dogs than could be properly cared for. We rescued 4 Chihuahuas from this home. Fern is now safe and ready to start a new chapter in a loving, forever home. We love this sweet girl and cannot wait for you to meet her.

Fern is a fun and playful puppy! She has high puppy energy. Fern loves the other small dogs in her foster home. Fern loves to run and tumble with her siblings. She also enjoy racing with her siblings in the house. She is inquisitive and explores everything in life. Fern is also respectful of the senior Chihuahuas in her foster home. Fern gives the space they want (and they appreciate that!). Fern LOVES toys. Her favorites are the small plush squeaky toys and the chew toys. Fern is hoping her new family has a big toy budget.

Fern adores her family. Fern is a “velcro Chihuahua”. She is very friendly. We think she is one of the sweetest puppies we have had. Fern loves to burrow under covers for naps. Fern loves to cuddle and she will snuggle with you for hours. If you enjoy relaxing TV time at night, Fern wants to climb up into your lap and cuddle! She loves to be up against you, sharing your love. Fern sticks close to you and will follow you from room to room. Note that she can be a tripping hazard. Fern wants to volunteer to be the social chairman of your home! She has never met a stranger. When Fern meets you, she immediately becomes your BFF. When you have visitors over, she will happily greet them and welcome them in!

Our vet estimates that Fern is about 5 months old (as of mid-January). She is 6.5 pounds and will grow a bit more (her DNA results project 7-13 pounds as her final weight). Fern has a beautiful light reddish tan coat with white on her chest. She has the cutest face. And we love her ears. We used a donated DNA kit (thank you supporters!) for Fern. The results are back. Fern is 75% Chihuahua, 3% Pomeranian, 3% Toy Fox Terrier, 3% Toy and Miniature Poodle, 2% Dachshund and 14% other. She is just adorable!

Fern is very smart. She is a puppy and is learning every day. She is good about going potty outside when kept on a regular schedule. She will also use pee pee pads as a backup. She occasionally has an accident in the house when she is playing and loses track of time, but she is getting better and better! At night, Fern sleeps in a doggie bed inside of an ex-pen with another puppy in her foster home. Due to her vaccination status, we have not begun to leash train her. We have now completed her vaccinations and are starting this process.

The ideal home for Fern would be one with high energy. She would love to have another young dog (maybe 1-3 years) to play with. Due to her small size, we recommend a home with small to medium sized dogs only (no large dogs). She needs a family who can check on her every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). Because of her love of family and attention, she would love to live with a work-from-home family. Fern is a quiet girl – we are not sure if she has ever barked! So if you work from home, she is a perfect office buddy! There are no children in her foster home but Fern loves people and has done well with the children she has met. We think she would do well with children 8 and older. Fern would be a great family dog.

Fern is being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ application submits correctly, the system will send you a copy. If you do not receive a copy into your email que, it did not submit. Feel free to email us at DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you need help with the application.

Fern is spayed, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. She is ready to join a loving family – could that family be yours?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $350.00 adoption donation required.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog.
