Meet Fern

Senior Hearts Rescue and Renewal is the only licensed senior dog rescue organization in Western Pennsylvania. We do not have a shelter or a public facility. ALL of our dogs reside in foster homes in the greater Pittsburgh, PA area.

We are a 100% volunteer organization. Please respect our volunteers' time. If a dog is listed on PetFinder, he/she IS available for adoption. We cannot reply to messages, phone calls, and emails about a dog until we have received, reviewed, and approved an application.

Our ADOPTION application is found at www.seniorhearts.org/how-to-adopt

Completing an application is the first step in our adoption screening process. You MUST complete the application in its entirety in order to be considered as a potential adopter. Please select "More About Us" for further details on our adoption requirements. You can meet a dog ONLY after we have completed our adoption approval process.

We look forward to receiving your application in hopes that you are able to meet our adoption requirements and provide this dog a loving furever home.

And now a few words from Fern.

I'm 12 years young and weigh about 15 pounds. I'm a super friendly dachshund who promises to seek pets from you.

I like to do all the normal doxie stuff like dig in the dirt, go on walks, hunt for food, chase critters, and bark loudly. But I also have a sweet, calm, quiet, and affection side. I enjoy sitting by the fire with you while you read or sunbathing on the deck.

I can live with other dogs that understand doxies can sometimes be bossy. Or I would be just fine being your one and only.

I have some significant chronic medical issues. I have exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) and presumed inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). I am well managed. I take a lot of medications and have it eat special food. But you don't have to worry about providing that. I am a member of the Permanent Paws program.

As a member of the Permanent Paws program, I will stay in the care of Senior Hearts furever. They pay for all of my medicine and doctor visits and my preventative care. They also oversee my care and quality of life.

But I need a home and a family. All you have to do is open your heart for funny lovable me and follow some rules. It will not cost you any money. It just costs you some love.

My Permanent Paws home has to be in the greater Pittsburgh, PA area so I can get to a partner vet easily and so the Senior Hearts people can watch over me.
If you want to share some love them please complete this application.
