Felice's Story
FELICE – Lab-Mix / 10 Years (almost 11) / 20kg / F-Spayed

“Hi, I’m Felice, and I’m working through some big feelings.” In today’s therapy session, Felice curls up on the metaphorical couch (blanket absolutely required) and shares her story. For eight years she lived with a family she thought was forever. In December 2024, that family left her behind. That hurt doesn’t just disappear, and sometimes it shows up as worry, guarded hellos, or acting a bit tougher than she really feels inside. She is still the same “Happy” dog she used to be — but now happiness lives beside grief, confusion, and a dash of dramatic flare. Felice explains that she genuinely loves her friends. Once you’re in her circle, you’re really in. She is warm, connected, silly, and loyal. Strangers, however, get the cautious side of her first. She prefers slow introductions, choice, and consent in relationships — her therapist would say these are actually very healthy boundaries. Her foster mom is her safe person. Felice adores her, seeks snuggles, and melts under gentle affection. She’s learning that cuddles don’t mean she’ll be left again. She watches the world from the couch like a little philosopher, taking it all in between naps.

When talking about cats, Felice sighs deeply. She tolerates the foster cat being… a bit of a jerk. She won’t start drama, but she would absolutely be happier in a cat-free home where she doesn’t have to pretend everything is fine all the time. Felice shares with her therapist what she loves most: walks that let her sniff and decompress, playtime with trusted pals, serious, committed snoozing TV time cuddled next to someone she loves, and maybe most important, feeling like she belongs. She is not a perfect dog — and in therapy, she’s learning no one needs to be. What she truly is: a wonderful, quirky, sensitive soul who has lived through loss and still chooses joy when given safety and patience. Felice’s therapy goal for this year is simple, and she whispers it softly: “I want a real forever family — the kind that doesn’t stop being my family.” If you understand that healing takes time, introductions should be thoughtful, and love can be both silly and serious, Felice may be your girl. She is ready to leave the therapy office and head home — for good.

Felice is long overdue for her forever family. Please go to www.dibsrescue.com for all adoption and application information. Her adoption fee is $450. While she has lived with kids in her former home, we suspect she is a little bit over that, and would prefer to be child free in her future family.
