Ezra *NEW!*'s Story
I am - a male chi mix – black
Age - 2 years (estimated)
Weight – 9 lbs
Sheds? - Yes
Exercise Needs - moderate
Barking – Yes (not bothersome though)
Housetrained? In progress
Travels well in car? Yes (a little nervous)
Good with: Dogs - Yes
Cats - Unknown
Kids - Yes (ages 11 and up)
Currently being fostered in the city of: London

Meet Ezra - part dog part living shadow - all black from nose to tail, you can barely tell where his fur ends and his soul begins. His handsome ears always proudly stand at attention and make him look just a tiny bit taller than he actually his (when you are as small as he is, every inch counts!)

Ezra didn’t grow up knowing what it meant to be loved by people. He had to take care of himself and, as a result, new situations (and new humans) can still be a bit overwhelming for him. He’s shy, but never mean…the kind of dog who wants desperately to trust you, but isn’t quite sure how just yet.

Now, in foster care, Ezra is finally learning what it means to be loved. When something startles him, he tends to bolt, so patience, double leashing and a secure yard are musts. That said, he’s already learned that walks can be fun (once you get that leash on!), and he’s starting to see that people aren’t so scary after all (although parked cars and approaching vehicles will sometimes make him tense up). Ezra’s also still discovering that treats are delicious, so food isn’t much of a motivator yet — you’ll need to win him over with time, not snacks (though he will take those, but it may take a few tries).

Despite his nerves, Ezra’s heart shines brightest when he’s with other dogs. He loves other canines — they make him feel brave, happy and downright playful. Just give him a dog buddy who loves to run around the yard, and you’ll see Ezra come alive in joyful zoomies that’ll melt your heart.

What he needs most is an understanding home with another friendly dog to show him the ropes, a secure yard to explore and people who will meet him where he is. He’s not ready yet to ask for human affection, but if you scoop him gently, he’ll allow your touch — tentative but trusting, he may even fall asleep in your arms. Every day he’s taking small steps forward, learning that hands can be kind and homes can be safe.

In his foster home, he’s let out very often and so has had few accidents (although he is a bit of a nervous pooper when he gets stressed). When introduced to a new home, he’s likely to have an occasional one as he adjusts.

His perfect people will understand that love doesn’t always start with tail wags and kisses. Sometimes, it begins with a glance, a quiet step closer and a soft sigh of trust. If you can find joy in the slow, beautiful work of helping a frightened soul learn to feel safe — Ezra is waiting for you.

————

All applicants must be 25 yrs or older
Applicants must be within 3 hr driving distance from Hamilton ON, and reside in Canada
Please advise your vet and personal reference that we will be calling

Pomeranian and Small Breed Rescue is not a kennel facility, all of our dogs live in volunteers' homes.
