Excel's Story

Celebrate with me! I found the GREATEST HOME and I'm so HAPPY!! Whoo-hoo!

Dec 2013

Hi! I'm Excel! I'm a small black Spitz (26 pounds) and I am very handsome. My trainers say I am a perfect walking or jogging companion and I love, Love, LOVE to train. I have had a lot of training from Texas Hearing & Service Dogs where I was adopted as a potential hearing dog. I want to please and I'm very quick to learn. I am house broken, crate trained, sit at doors to be let out, and I know lots of tricks. I also know sit, heel, down, come, stay, off, can lay quietly for long periods, don't get stressed if I'm left alone for a while, and I walk great on a leash. Here they think I would make a terrific companion for someone in an apartment or living alone. I am very affectionate to my trainers -- they call me "sweetie" -- but I want to have a home and very own person to love. However, there's a reason I'm not going to be a service dog: I have that Spitz thing about snapping when frightened. It's a breed instinct and I'm really wary of strangers. I've learned to wear a soft head halter so I can go out without worries. It lets me eat and drink but my foster doesn't have to worry about someone rushing up to pet me. I'm so cute that happens sometimes! Once I get to know people, I'm friendly and cuddly -- I just have to meet them slowly. To help my new family get started, THSD is offering four training sessions with one of their professional trainers. This will let you see the skills I have and let me learn to work for you. I hope we meet soon! I have a lot of love stored up for someone. I want a forever home!
