Meet Everest,<br/><br/>This 7 month old border collie puppy that found herself on an Alabama euthanasia list for no other reason than "length of stay".<br/><br/>Despite her affectionate kisses and love for attention, she and her litter were going to be put down due to a lack of space at the shelter.<br/><br/>She is a relatively new addition to the rescue, but so far, she's been food motivated, playful, and a total velcro dog, even off leash. She is a quick learner, true to the breed: She quickly learned how to escape the fence, so she could be closer to her human friends. <br/><br/>She is becoming more energetic as she recovers from her illnesses. She currently is being treated for Giardia and Pneumonia; she is looking for a medical foster with no other animals in the meantime to help her quarantine and heal. <br/><br/>She loves to be held and will lay at your feet, or snuggle next to you on the couch. She wants to rest her head on you and have you touching her 24/7. <br/><br/>She loathes baths, and is a picky eater. This may change as she starts to get healthier, but currently, she needs canned chicken mixed into her kibble before she'll eat it. She takes her pill nicely when it's offered with chicken. <br/><br/>Being a puppy (and being raised in a small, muddy, isolating pen her whole life), there are still skills she needs to work on. She is a jumper, she'll need to build confidence with new experiences, and she is not housebroken or crate trained. She does well in her kennel if you're in the same room with her and she can watch you. She does get quite vocal when you leave, then usually quiets in 10-15 minutes. She would really love a home that actually has time to devote to her. So many border collies are rehomed due to "not having time for them" -- she is a very loyal dog and deserves someone that will devote themselves to her her whole life, not just for while she's a pretty, flashy puppy. <br/><br/>Between her brains and his age, she has her whole life ahead of her. She would love a home that understands how smart border collies are, and how to keep them engaged and entertained. She would love to stay active with you, being your jogging partner, hiking buddy, or fishing companion.<br/><br/>We are prioritizing finding a medical foster for her at this time, but will review adoption applications in a couple of weeks once she heals. Our fosters do get priority when it comes to adopting. <br/><br/>Fosters must be local to Central Tx.
