Emmett's Story
Emmett is a 2-year-old, 22-pound terrier mix who is still learning that the world (especially the people in it) can be kind. He is sweet, soft-natured, and incredibly shy, but once he feels safe, his quirky and playful personality shines through.

Emmett is very unaccustomed to human touch and will need a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time. He is not aggressive at all. When overwhelmed, he simply retreats or looks for a safe place to hide. He is making steady progress in his foster home and is very food motivated. Treats go a long way with this boy.

What Emmett loves even more than food is other dogs. He is very playful and happiest with canine companions of any size, though his enthusiasm may overwhelm dogs who are not as playful. He has a strong prey drive, so a cat-free home is best.

Emmett walks nicely on leash and enjoys short walks where he can sniff and explore at his own pace. He is potty trained and mostly crate trained, preferring a travel crate as his cozy safe space. He happily goes into his crate to eat and will take treats from your hand.

One of Emmett’s most charming quirks is his love of fetch. He will try to bring you toys, balls, or socks to throw, as long as you do not try to grab him. When he feels safe, he enjoys settling nearby for naps and quiet companionship.

Because he is nervous about people, Emmett would do best in a calm, quiet home with adults or older kids/teens who understand boundaries and are willing to let him move at his own pace. He may not rush up to greet you, but with patience and kindness, Emmett will blossom into a loyal, playful, deeply rewarding companion.

Thank you for your interest in one of our Hero Babies! Before inquiring, we thought it was important to share a few of our policies.

Your Current Pets - We do require that your current dogs and cats are current on vaccines and spayed/neutered.

Adoptions - We do not have a shelter and are a foster-home based organization. We do require that you have an approved adoption application to schedule a meet and greet. You can fill out an adoption application on our website, www.herorescue.org/adopt. Once your application is approved it will be sent to the foster family that is currently caring for the dog. They will be able to provide information on likes, dislikes, personality, etc. They will also schedule a time for you to meet the dog. We do require a home visit prior to adoption.

Inquiries - If you would like more information on any dogs in the rescue, please email us at info@herorescue.org.
