Emmett's Story
Emmett is an absolute love bug! He will snuggle with you all evening and all night if given the chance. He definitely thinks he's a lapdog and wants to be as close to you as he can be. He's energetic and loves to play, chomping at the water coming out of the hose in the warmer weather and gnoshing on his toys, stuffed and tuff, with equal delight when the weather is Western Washington gray and drizzly. He gets along great with dogs his size and will romp and wrestle until they're all exhausted. Small dogs and cats are exceedingly exciting for Emmett and they aren't the right companions for him. He's eager to train and is very food motivated. He knows sit and touch, and is very comfortable in a crate. We're working on "wait" for his dinner and taking treats softly, as he's an eager beaver for anything food related. He's a sniffer out on walks, and needs continued guidance to help with pulling to get to his next sweet-smelling destination. He'd make a great companion for trails and hiking. He's in great health, steadily putting on weight after being found very thin. There was certainly neglect in his past, and we suspect some abuse as well. He can be timid at first, sometimes including submissive urination, but with patience and encouragement he comes around pretty quickly. (We haven't had an incident of submissive urination in quite some time now.) He's been with us since July and are seeking a forever home for him. We would love to keep this boy in our family, but know that it's not the right long-term fit for him or our other pets. Due to a recent change in our circumstances, having a family member diagnosed with a terminal illness, and needing to care for them, we're not able to give Emmett the love and attention that he deserves and needs. As such, we're trying to find a great family that can give Emmett all the love he can handle!

Emmett is believed to be an American Pitbull Terrier and a black Labrador Retriever mix. He's approximately 45-50lbs, and is between 2-4 years old.
