Elmer Fudd's Story
Meet Elmer Fudd! He loves tennis balls so much that, if you don't have time to throw the ball for him, he'll just do it himself. He isn’t the sort of pup to walk into a room assuming everyone is his best friend. He likes a little personal space, prefers to make his own decisions and likes to get to know you before handing over his heart.

Elmer was found stray and arrived at the Haven covered in fleas that were trapped tight against his skin beneath painful mats. He has a bald spot near his tail from the infestation, severe dental disease, and a grade 3/6 heart murmur. He has been cured of fleas, his skin has been treated, and he's had a dental. His heart murmur doesn't require any medication, so he's ready for adoption!

This handsome boy loves car rides, walkies, fetch, booty scritches, and being greeted like the most important person who has ever lived when his foster mom gets home. Don’t worry, he’s equally excited to welcome his hooman.
He’s fully house trained, sleeps peacefully while foster mom is at work, and walks well on the leash. He could live with a larger dog or could be an only dog.

Elmer loves his toys and playing fetch. He's got a lot of energy and will play fetch for an hour at a time. He also likes to chase squirrels. He enjoys food, snacks, and treat puzzles. Loves car rides and feeling the breeze.

Elmer does have some boundaries that need to be respected. He can become overstimulated during petting and is still protective of his food, so his future home needs to be adult only, without small animals, and with patient humans who understand that consent is very important when you’re loving Elmer. He needs someone patient enough to earn his trust, respectful enough to listen when he says he’s had enough, and enthusiastic enough to throw a tennis ball approximately 47,000 times. In his foster home he has learned to walk away when he’s getting overwhelmed instead of immediately throwing paws or teef at the situation.

Elmer has some arthritis in his back end, for which he takes CBDs and sometimes gabapentin. Occasionally he will bark at his back leg to order it to stop hurting. It is unclear if this works. He is good to go up/down a few stairs but would find a whole staircase a little daunting.

Elmer's ideal home will provide him with plenty of walks, structure, and routine. It would not have any children or small animals, and there will be zillions of tennis balls everywhere.

If you give Elmer some space and respect his treasured ball collection, you’ll discover an incredibly gentle, funny, easygoing dog who will bring you great joy.

Elmer Fudd is approximately 12 years old and 19 lbs.

Fostered in Arlington, VA.
Please apply at MirisHaven.org.
