Elmer 25-230's Story

Tonight, Elmer is trading kennel time for couch time as he enjoys a sleepover at volunteer Jen’s house — and he is doing wonderfully.

He rode in the car politely (with a little curiosity about the front seat — which is very on brand for a young, enthusiastic pup). With consistency, that will absolutely improve. He went for a short walk and did his business outside like a good boy. Since arriving, he has been playing calmly with toys and has now settled into a very large, very cozy dog bed for a peaceful snooze.

This is the side of Elmer we love people to see.

Elmer is just 11 months old — still a puppy in all the best ways. He’s playful, affectionate, and eager to be part of whatever you’re doing. He enjoys enrichment, toys, and spending time with his people. With structure and continued guidance, he is going to grow into an incredible companion.

Sleepovers like this help us learn more about our dogs in a home setting, and Elmer is showing us that he can decompress, relax, and settle beautifully outside the shelter environment.

If you’re looking for a young dog who will grow with you, make you laugh, and happily curl up at the end of the day in a “very large bed,” Elmer may be your guy.

Adoption Application Instructions

Please do not submit an adoption application through Petfinder.

The Town of Stratford Animal Control does not review or receive Petfinder applications.

To apply to adopt, you must complete the official adoption process through the Town of Stratford website:

https://www.stratfordct.gov/o/stratford/page/animal-adoption

All adoption information, requirements, and the correct application can be found at the link above.
