Ellie - can be adopted with Chip's Story

Meet Ellie!

Ellie is a 5-year-old, 68-lb. Labrador Retriever mix. She's spayed and up to date on all her doggie shots. She spent the first four years of her life as a neglected backyard dog, then as a stray. She was picked up during the Altadena Fires in California in January 2025.

Despite her past, Ellie is resilient! She is a joyful goofball and loves everyone. Ellie has a signature move -- she tucks her head and does a somersault! And because of this signature move, she needs a human(s) with sturdy legs!

Ellie has been in a live-in training program to get the skills she needs to succeed in a home. She's good on leash, has solid recall, and is Sit, Down, Place and crate-trained. She has an abundance of energy and is always up for an off-leash adventure.

Ellie is good with dogs of all sizes and curious about other animals, but has zero prey drive. When she gets excited she forgets her size and loses spacial awareness. BIG WAGS & WIGGLES! That said, her training can quickly bring her into a calmer, more focused state. Ellie also has turbo charged metabolism and has a substantial appetite, yet keeps a slim, lean physique. At night, when on her place, she mellows into a doe-eyed girl who loves to lean into a cuddle!

Ellie's adoption comes with training sessions to transfer her training so that it can be maintained until she settles in successfully. These sessions are required and complimentary.

Ellie's bestie Chip (Lab/Cattle Dog mix) is also available for adoption, if you have room in your home and heart for a sweet bonded pair.

For more info and/or to apply to adopt Ellie, send us an email at SummitDogRescue@gmail.com, telling us a bit about yourself, your home environment and your lifestyle. A volunteer will get back to you shortly.
