Elena's Story
*09/28/25 - Elena had her knee surgery last week!!!!
She is doing so great, and the surgeon was very happy with how it turned out. She is going to feel soooooooo much better being able to zoom around on 4 legs!
Mallory is pouting that her BFF is on bed rest for a few weeks until everything has healed up.
Elena is already anxious to be able to be free from her kennel, but we have to be strong and make sure she heals perfectly.
Elena is still available and looking for her people! She is incredibly friendly, and will be unstoppable with her new stable knee!
Interested in Elena, fill out an application at www.aychihuahuarescue.org/adopt

*09/19/25 - Elena Update!
A little while back we shared that Elena has a grade 4 luxating patella (a severely displaced kneecap). Weve been waiting to see if surgery was even possible for her and the good news is in the surgeons believe they can help her!
Her surgery is scheduled soon and will cost $1,865$2,165. This will give Elena the chance at a pain-free, happy life she deserves.
Every dollar gets us closer to making this possible. Thank you for always being in Elenas corner!
Want to help Elena? She is so much fun and full of energy and love. Elena has seen the vet and surgeons in regards to her left hind leg, looks like she has a severely luxated patella which is why she doesn't use the leg. They are waiting to see if it is causing her any pain to determine if she needs surgery or is ok as is. It doesn't seem to bother her at all, and the concern is that it might not successfully straighten out her leg enough to make it usable.
Meanwhile, Elena is a total goofball and gets along with everyone. She made friends at the vet, work, and at home with her foster fur siblings.
Elena is a stage 5 clinger . And once she is released from her medical hold will make someone the happiest chi owner in the world!
More pupdates to come!

*08/20/25 - Meet Elena!
Elena comes to us from the San Antonio shelter after being brought in with a suspected broken leg
Elena is still a young girl at just 2 years old so we are hoping for some good news at the vet. The shelter noted they believed her left hind leg was broken, and she won't put weight on it. She doesnt cry or yelp when you touch it, and it doesn't slow this sweet girl down one bit!
Elena is about 7.5 lbs and is a bundle of smiles and laughs. She was scared and nervous at the shelter, but now that she is in a foster home she is just all cuddles and zoomies.
More updates to come as she sees the vet this week and we get a prognosis for her leg!

*08/19/25 - New intake from San Antonio ACS, bum leg to be checked, 2 yrs old, 7.6 lbs. So very sweet and getting along with all the dogs so far
