Duke Silver's Story

From Duke’s foster mom:
– good in car
– doing well with other dogs in house
– plays upon request but doesn’t initiate play himself
– eats kibble sparingly and prefers treats
-Slept eight hours without a peep in crate
– knows sit, stay, down
-Takes treats very gently
-settles inside the house easily
-is very strong and pulls on leash (will work on this)
-Definitely house trained. Zero accidents
Duke would be a great dog for someone who wants a running /hiking partner, or wants a young dog but doesn’t love the training part. He has clearly been well trained and knows how to behave inside the house and with other dogs.
Dashing Duke Silver arrived at NCCR in late October as a local stray. Since his owner did not come forward to claim him, he is now ready to hunt for a forever home of his own. Believed to be around 1-2 years old, and guessed to be a mix of Labrador Retriever and possibly Pointer or Hound (maybe both?), this sporting mix is lively, energetic, and likes to keep himself busy. He enjoys playing with toys, and seems to be friendly to the other dogs around him at the shelter. He appears to have been well cared for previously, and has a nice, outgoing temperament. Duke is hoping for a family that can continue with daily training, give him lots of exercise, 1-on-1 attention and playtime, and has room in their home and heart for a big, active, playful buddy.
If you think you might be interested in adopting, your next step should be to complete an Adoption Application found at caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day.

We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.

*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them.

NYS Registration #RR028
