Meet Duke John
We are searching for a knight in shining armor (or a warrior princess) to rescue this particular Duke.
We estimate that Duke John is about 11 years old and 112 pounds of sheer handsome beauty, very loving, and majestic as all get out. He loves to cuddle, would be happiest getting non-stop petting, knows a whole bunch of commands, is housebroken, and stays off the furniture unless invited. A gentle giant, he loves all people (including children) and gets along well with other dogs.
DNA tests indicate he is a bloodhound/lab/Catahoula mix. Despite his age, he’s still got plenty of pep in his step, especially if leash an Amazon truck should come along. Duke John loves his routine, and it includes non-negotiable short nightly walks — one of his very favorite things in life.
This guy is a survivor and has adapted to a more relaxed lifestyle due to his congenital heart condition and is taking several medications each day. The medications are working, and he currently is no longer in heart failure. His health requires a human who can keep him on a strict food and med schedule, let him out frequently, and who will bring him to regular vet appointments. He is not neutered: due to his age and heart issues, he cannot undergo anesthesia.
To help Duke John get settled in his furever home, SCCR will cover 6 months of his current medications and cover the costs of his next chest radiographs and echocardiogram.
Anyone interested in Duke John should complete an application and speak to our medical staff so we can be certain his health needs will be met. He is searching for a loving home where he can live his best life. He is one heckuva special dog.
Interested in adopting this dog? Visit our website (http://www.SecondCityCanineRescue.org) to fill out an application and we will connect you with our medical team.
We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog.
Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess.
Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!
