Duke--I'm a Puppies for Parole Dog!!!'s Story

10/28/196--Duke is currently housed and enrolled in the Puppies for Parole Program at the Boonville Correction Center where (s)he will stay for 8 weeks of basic obedience training. (S)He will learn commands such as “sit”, “stay”, “heel”, “come”, etc. (S)He will learn crate and house training. Duke will be available for adoption while (s) he is in the Program, but will not be released to his/her new adopting family until the end of the 8 weeks when (s)he graduates. The adoption fee for a Puppies for Parole dog is $100. For questions regarding adoptions, call the Marshall Animal Shelter at (660)831-0420
Duke's previous owner's reportedly acquired him from a neighbor who was going to shoot him because he kept getting out of his outside pen and running around town which resulted in fines for them. The new family also found this to be true when they put him on a chain. The report to have tried a harness and two or three different collars on him, all of which he figured out how to slip out of. They used a heavy log chain to keep him from breaking free once they found a collar that he couldn't slip. Needless to say, this dog has not been able to live life like a Labrador should; by running through the woods and jumping into ponds. Duke is reported to be housetrained, knows most basic commands, loves kids and all people, is fine with other dogs and cats. He lives for the times when he can go for a ride in the back of a truck with the wind flapping his ears and jowls! When he got in trouble at either house he would be told to "go to your room" and he would! This boy is a big, goofy puppy that deserves to live life with an active family that can appreciate his breed and energy level.
10/9/16--DUKE'S OWNER'S HAVE SIGNED HIM OVER TO US. NOW, HE WILL ATTEND THE PUPPIES FOR PAROLE PROGRAM AT BOONVILLE CORRECTION CENTER AND HOPEFULLY BECOME A SERVICE DOG FOR A MILITARY VETERAN!!!!
