Duke's Story
Duke is a handsome 5 year old pittie mix weighing about 65 pounds. If you're looking for a dog who will make you laugh, happily join you on adventures and outings, and then curl up next to you for a nap, Duke just might be your perfect match.

Duke is an absolute sweetheart who loves people and never turns down a cuddle or a chance to give kisses. He's a goofy guy who is full of personality, and always keeps his foster family smiling. Whether he's making silly faces, zooming around, or snuggling on the couch, he brings so much joy wherever he goes.

He's also a very well mannered boy! Duke is fully potty trained, does great in his crate (with some mild protest in the beginning), and has excellent house manners. He knows sit, stay, place, come, down, and heel, and he's a good boy on leash. Walks are one of his favorite things, and he enjoys getting outside to explore or sunbathe.

Duke gets along well with other dogs, especially those his size, and he enjoys having canine friends to play with. He would love a family that will continue giving him regular walks, playtime, and adventures to keep both his mind and body happy and to help with his energy.

Because Duke can forget just how big he is when he's excited, he'd do best with older, dog-savvy children (elementary age and up) who won't be easily knocked over or chased by his enthusiasm. He has a little bit of a prey drive—always out to get those squirrels—so a securely fenced in yard is recommended, especially if there are small animals nearby, but it's not a requirement for the right home. Because of his prey drive, he would need to be cat tested.

Duke has a history of a neurological condition that is currently well managed and does not require daily care. As a result, he can be a little off balance or wonky sometimes but he has built up a lot of strength. He's been doing great and it doesn't slow him down from living a happy, active life.

More than anything, Duke is looking for someone to love and for someone to love him. He's loyal, affectionate, funny, and has so much love to give. He's just a solid dog to have by your side (both figuratively and literally). He has all the qualities that make a wonderful companion, and he's ready to find the family he's been waiting for.

Adoption fee is $375 and includes spay/neuter, microchip, fecal/deworming, vaccines and prevention up to date. Ohio residents only.

STS is a foster-based and volunteer-run rescue. We do not have a physical location or set hours for you to meet dogs, and it does take time to answer each inquiry. All dogs are in foster homes and once an application is approved and a home visit is completed you will be able to schedule meet and greets with available dogs. We encourage interested individuals to get approved prior to searching as it helps expedite the process. A Petfinder inquiry is not a substitute for an application.
