DUKE's Story
Meet Duke (A554296)! Duke is one of those dogs who makes a strong first impression. He has a bold look, a big presence, and a whole lot of energy packed into one handsome pup. He can seem intimidating at first glance, but once you take the time to really see him, you discover a dog who is playful, loyal, and bursting with personality. Duke thrives when he can be outside running, playing, and burning off his energy. Squeaky toys are his absolute favorite and he could happily entertain himself for hours if you let him. He can be a bit unsure around new people, but once he knows you, you are officially in his inner circle. At that point, Duke is all in and will happily be your shadow and your best friend. He bonds deeply with his people and would do best with someone who understands that he is a lot of dog and is ready to meet him where he is. Duke will need a patient, experienced owner who understands his breed and his needs. He prefers to be the only pet in the home so he can soak up all the attention, and while he has been around young children before, supervision and structure will be important. On leash, Duke can be enthusiastic and may pull, and he has a bit of an escape artist streak, so awareness and consistency are key. He may also experience some separation anxiety, which means mental stimulation, enrichment, and routine will be very important for his success. Duke is not for everyone, and that is okay. He is for the right person. Someone who wants an active companion, who enjoys training and structure, and who believes that big personalities deserve big love. If you are ready to put in the work, Duke is ready to give you his whole heart Duke is guesstimated to be 2 years old and weighs 60 lbs. All dogs adopted from Huntsville Animal Services are spayed/ neutered, microchipped, dewormed, appropriately vaccinated, and receive a topical 90-day flea/ tick preventative. Ready to meet Duke? All you have to do is stop by our shelter at 4950 Triana Blvd and head to our dog areas. You can find him in kennel D31. All adopters must be 19 years or older with a valid ID
