Duchess's Story

LOCATION: Saint Paul, NC
DOB: 06/20/2019

Meet Duchess, a loyal and loving Great Dane who’s ready to find her perfect person. True to her name, Duchess carries herself with quiet grace and an affectionate nature. She loves her people deeply and wants nothing more than to be right by your side—whether you’re on the couch, in bed, or even brushing your teeth. She’s happiest when she can be close to her person, and she’ll let you know with her gentle whines or soulful howls if she feels left out. Duchess is a true companion through and through, always watching, always devoted.

At home, Duchess takes her role as protector seriously. She’s alert to her surroundings and will let you know if someone’s nearby. She’s especially wary of men and tends to growl at male visitors, even with slow introductions. She’s made friends with a few patient female visitors but prefers a calm, predictable home without a lot of strangers coming and going. Outside the home, she’s more relaxed and friendly, but her comfort zone is very much her safe space with the people she trusts.

Duchess is housetrained and working on her crate training. She’s content to nap in her crate if the door is open and you’re nearby, but she’ll bark or howl if she’s left alone. She walks well on leash with a head collar and enjoys her strolls, though she can pull hard if she spots another dog she doesn’t like. She’s dog selective—some dogs she’s curious about and seems eager to meet, while others she’d prefer to avoid. For that reason, she would do best as the only dog in the home. She hasn’t lived with cats, but her calm response to cat sounds suggests she could coexist peacefully with a confident feline.

Her foster describes her as a creature of habit: she wakes up early, settles down by 9 p.m., and has a few adorable quirks that make her easy to love. Duchess is known to “boop” her people awake in the morning if they’re not up when she is, and she loves leaning against you for pets or sitting halfway on your lap with her front paws on the floor. She’s a big fan of treats—duck heads are her current favorite—and enjoys a cozy routine filled with naps, snacks, and affection.

Duchess doesn’t like rain or loud noises, so a calm home in a quiet area would suit her best. Her ideal adopter is someone home most of the time—a retiree, homemaker, or remote worker—who understands giant breeds and appreciates a gentle dog who bonds deeply. Because she can be anxious and protective, a home without small children or men would be the most comfortable fit for her.

If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will fill your days with quiet love and steadfast loyalty, Duchess might just be the one. She’s a sensitive, affectionate girl who’s ready to give her whole heart to someone who’ll give her the safe, peaceful home she’s been waiting for.

========================= To apply to adopt me, please fill out the application form! https://form.jotform.com/51994996709176 .

Note: SRGDRR adopts nationwide and offers transport options to help you find your perfect match! Team Rocky Enterprises, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
How Our Adoption Process Works Team Rocky Enterprises DBA Save Rocky the Great Dane Rescue and Rehab (SRGDRR) follows a thoughtful adoption process designed to ensure the best possible match for both our dogs and their future families. Our available dogs are posted on our website, Facebook page, and multiple adoption platforms, including Petfinder. Once you find a dog you’re interested in, the process includes: 1. Adoption Application – This helps us learn about you, your household, and what you’re looking for in a dog so we can make the best match. 2. Veterinary Reference Check – We verify that current or past pets have received appropriate veterinary care. First-time pet owners are welcome and encouraged to apply. 3. Phone Interview – This is a chance for us to talk with you about the dog you’re interested in, including personality, needs, medical history, and any quirks. It’s also your opportunity to ask questions about the dog and our rescue. 4. Home Check – We confirm that your home environment is safe and appropriate for the dog, whether that includes a fenced yard or a leash-walking setup. This is not a housekeeping inspection—just a safety check. Once all steps are completed and approved, you’ll sign an adoption contract and submit an adoption donation. From there, your new forever friend will be ready to head home! Why This Process Matters Our goal is to match each dog with a home that best meets their needs. Some dogs thrive with experienced owners, while others do best with someone who is home most of the day or understands specific behavioral or medical needs. Taking the time to get this right helps ensure lifelong, successful adoptions. Our Lifetime Commitment If at any point you are unable to keep your adopted dog, you must contact us. We will always take our dogs back. We never want them to end up in unsafe situations or shelters again. Our responsibility to each dog lasts for their lifetime. Thank you for choosing rescue and for considering adoption with SRGDRR.
