Drake's Story

Meet Drake, a big, strapping boy who happens to like to curl up under the desk while his human works on the computer. He can be dominant with other dogs and does not like to share human attention with others. Six years old now, he'd lived in the same home since puppyhood with another weim. He was surrendered to GLWR when his owner relocated out of state.

He can crate or free roam the house and shows an interest in cats but not likely to hurt them. Drake has excellent recall, knows basic commands and is food driven. He is calmer dog and not a big jumper, not very vocal and rarely barks. He likes care rides and rides well. Drake may make an excellent city/apartment dog and likes to lay on the bed, but will stay down if told. He walks okay on-leash but pulls initially and would do well in a dog park. Due to their deep-chested build, Weims are prone to a condition called bloat, though we don't often see it in the rescue. Drake did bloat after arriving here but had a very successful surgery and recovery and is doing well now. His new owner will need to be cognizant of this and be careful not to give him things like rawhides, to monitor food intake, watch activity after meals, and feed a higher-quality non-expanding type of quality kibble, etc.

Now that he is well, Drake is eager to meet his new family.
