Dove's Story

Dove is a 4-year-old German Shepherd/Husky mix with a very soft, sensitive soul. She is quite shy and uncertain in new situations and is very much a work in progress. When she feels overwhelmed, Dove tends to cower and looks to her people for comfort and reassurance. With a gentle, patient approach, she does allow affection and finds comfort in calm, quiet interactions.

Ideal Home

Dove will need a very understanding adopter who recognizes that she is a special-needs dog and is committed to helping her feel safe in the world. She requires a calm, predictable home where her world can be kept small at first, with new experiences introduced slowly and thoughtfully.

A confident, friendly dog in the home would be a big benefit for Dove, as she gains reassurance and confidence from other dogs. That said, we are open to applications from homes without another dog, as long as the adopter understands that her training and confidence-building may take more time and patience. Dove will not be placed with young children, older teenagers may be fine but within a quiet household.

Because fearful dogs can panic and bolt when uncertain, Dove will need an adopter who is diligent about safety, secure doors and fences, and proper leash management at all times.

Training

Dove will need continued confidence-building through positive reinforcement, gentle encouragement, and consistent routines.

Dove is treat-motivated and enjoys working for food, which will be a great tool for building trust and confidence.
