Doug's Story

Hi, I’m Doug!

I’m roughly 5-7 years old. This means that you get the best of both worlds! I’m already fully housebroken, crate trained, leash trained, and socialized, but I still have the energy to play when you want. I also love to snuggle up on the couch or in bed with you. Whether you’re looking for a walking partner or a movie buddy, I’ve got you covered!

I’m good with other dogs, cats, kids, and people. Loud, energetic dogs can scare me a bit, but as long as they’re respectful I love playing with them. I’d be happy to find a home with fur siblings, but I’m content with just my humans too.

When I was first found on the road I was in really bad shape. I was severely dehydrated and malnourished, had an awful ear infection, frostbite, and my skin was in bad shape. Someone had tied me up outside and my hair was worn off where my collar was. Even with the way I was treated, I was overjoyed when a nice lady pulled over to help me and jumped right in her car! I’m very trusting of people in spite of my past, and have worked hard to get healthy to find my forever family. The rescue has nursed me back to health, and as soon as I am cleared after my heartworm treatment, I’ll be ready to move into my forever home!

If you are looking for a big cuddle bug who just wants to be loved, Doug is your guy. He is truly such a special, loving dog, and we’re determined to show him that he deserves a happy ending. He persevered through many awful trials to get to you!

*** Doug is currently going through heartworm treatment, therefore, he is currently only available through our Foster to Adopt program. This means that we will continue to cover his treatment at our vet, while he gets settled in to his forever home.
Due to the necessity of multiple vet visits during his treatment, applicants must be within a commutable distance to Lumberton/Raeford/Fort Bragg, NC.
