Dorothy's Story

Age: 8 years
Weight: 25lbs

Though she looks like Snoopy’s cousin once removed, this sweet girl comes from somewhere over the rainbow. Meet Dorothy, an approximately 8-year-old Beagle mix weighing about 25 pounds, who’s bravely adjusting to city life after coming from Texas.

Dorothy is a total homebody who thrives on comfort and routine. Her favorite activities include making cozy little nests out of blankets (on the couch or in her crate), soaking up affection, and politely greeting the world around her. She’s incredibly food-motivated, which has made training a breeze (she responds to her name and "come" and is learning "place" (for her crate). And she’s already shown how smart she is—she knows exactly where “home” is and happily bounds up the stairs straight to the front door.

She lets you know when she needs to go out; you can tell by a sudden onset of restlessness. So far, she's the perfect apartment dog and hasn't made a peep! She walks nicely on a leash and does best with a sturdy one and a front-pull harness.

Dorothy enjoys relaxed strolls through Riverside Park, taking her time to smell all the smells and gently booping friendly strangers who stop to say hello. Her inner Beagle comes out when she spots a squirrel or pigeon—she never chases, but she certainly likes to observe! We're taking it easy with her as she is midway through heartworm treatment, but she doesn't seem to mind; she's just a very chill companion.

This gentle lady has a silly side, too. She loves rolling over for belly rubs, wiggling her way onto your lap, and being admired by passersby. She’s done wonderfully meeting neighbors and strangers alike and is especially sweet with kids ages 8 and up, offering a polite sniff and a gentle boop in greeting.

Dorothy is fantastic in her crate, happily shuffling around until her nest is just right before settling in. She sleeps through the night and greets mornings with soft kisses and a wagging tail. Kind, gentle, and still delightfully spry, Dorothy is ready for a calm, consistent home where she can finally put down roots and make her permanent nest.

**Dorothy tested positive for heartworm previously and was treated before leaving Texas**

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING?
To adopt Dorothy, apply on our website www.truenorthrescue.org/adopt and email adopt.truenorthrescue@gmail.com to follow up on your application.

PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TO ASK IF HE/SHE IS AVAILABLE. IF THIS LISTING IS UP, THE DOG IS NOT ADOPTED YET.

Also, we have a very high volume of applications and we are all volunteers. We cannot respond to every application personally. Please make sure your application gives us a good picture of your family and the life you plan on providing a dog from our rescue. We choose a home based on the BEST FIT for EACH dog and approve on a dog by dog basis. Thank you!

True North Pet Rescue Mission's Adoption Policy
First Step: Submit Your Application True North does not issue blanket approvals, we consider the needs of each specific dog when reviewing applications. If you don't have a specific dog in mind when applying, please note this on your application so that we can keep this in mind when reviewing. We require home photos for all applicants, but can accept a video replacement. Please enter as much detail as possible on your application, this helps us better understand what you are looking for and how this relates to the needs of the dog you have applied for. For puppies under 12 weeks, we require a care plan. This includes a plan for when the dog will be left alone, as puppies younger than 12 weeks should not be left alone longer than 2-3 hours at a time. Please Note: Due to the high volume of applications we receive, it is not always possible to reply to everyone. If your application is approved, you can expect the following. Second Step: Application Review & Approval 1. If your application is approved, an email will be sent connecting you with the dog's current foster. At this time, you may schedule a mutually convenient time to meet. 2. After meeting, you have 24 hours to confirm if you would like to move forward with finalizing the adoption. After this, if we have not heard from you, we will begin scheduling other meets. 3. If you choose to finalize, we will issue an adoption contract via email. Once the signed agreement has been electronically returned along with the adoption fee (which will be disclosed prior to adopting), you will be all set to coordinate for pick-up with the foster! Adoption Fees: Our adoption fees are comparable to those found amongst other well-known rescues in the city. We only accept electronic payments for adoption fees.
