Dorothy

Dorothy is the happiest Beagle around despite a pretty crappy past. Dorothy (along with her best friend Blanche) was rescued from a not so nice hunter in Louisiana in June. They had both lived all their 4 years in a 10’x10’ outdoor kennel churning out puppies for hunters. Their only protection from the elements was an old barrel and their only source of water was covered in green slime. Dorothy has left her past in the past and is living her best Beagle life in foster care! She is between 4-5 years old and weighs in at a chunky 24 lbs. <br/><br/>Dorothy adores kids! She is great with other dogs and cats. She may chase a cat that runs from her, but has shown no aggression to the cats in her foster home and even tries to get them to play with her. Dorothy says her days raising puppies are over and she prefers to hang with other adult, laid back dogs. She doesn't love being outside after her previous life and just wants to go out to potty then come right back into the comforts of home. Her foster home has a doggie door, but if you don’t make her go outside to potty, she will have accidents. Dorothy can be vocal at times when she is excited (at feeding time) or when she wants to come back inside but is otherwise quiet and chill. She enjoys playing with toys and with her buddy Blanche but is not a high energy dog by any means. Soft dog beds, snacks, and naps are her jam. She walks nicely (and very slowly) on leash and rides well in the car. Dorothy does enjoy going out in public and meeting new people and dogs. She is friendly and social with all. Her foster family does not have kids, but she loves meeting them on outings. Upon rescue, she did test positive for heartworms but has gone through treatment. As of early October, Dorothy is heartworm free and ready to find her forever family! <br/><br/>Dorothy is currently in foster care in North Louisiana, but we welcome out of state adoptions. We have an amazing transport that delivers all along the East Coast... PA, NJ, CT, NY, VT.<br/><br/>PAWS of NE LA was formed back in 2003 and we have been sending our special Southern dogs to wonderful homes up North since 2010.
