Doris's Story

Miss Doris was found wandering the freezing streets in Texas in January 2024. With her were 4 of her puppies, and another 4 orphan puppies this sweet girl had taken under her wing.

Fast forward to September 2025, when Doris waddled off the transport looking like a barrel with legs and into our lives. Since then she’s quickly adapted to Colorado life and had been getting into Colorado shape. She’s enjoyed her first hikes, first trip to Chatfield off leash park and brewery patio visits. She’s an amazingly sweet and affectionate girl, always looking to snuggle up close to her humans.

Doris has great manners and leash etiquette, always raring to go in a walk or hop in the car for an adventure. She is aloof with other Canines and does best with low energy dogs that don’t get into her space. That said, she has played a little with one of her foster brothers. Humans are her thing and she will thrive in an environment where she is part of the family, and can give cuddles and kisses and nap on a lap.

After her time on the streets and almost 2 year in foster care Doris is ready to settle down with a life and family to call her own.

If you’re interested in adopting any of our sweet pups, apply online at www.uppupandaway.org. Meet and greets only happen once approved as an adopter. If you’re already an approved adopter or foster, feel free to DM your interest.

Up Pup and Away's Adoption Policy
How long will it take to process my application? We are a small rescue group who is ran by volunteers. Please allow us at least 3 business days to process your application and we will get back to you as soon as possible! Please note that we are not a first come first serve rescue. No meet and greets will be scheduled until you have gone through the adoption application & have been approved. Why is the adoption fee so expensive? Our rescues come from all over the globe, and their final destinations are here in Colorado. Our rescue runs solely on donations and adoption fees to continue to help as many dogs as we are able. Because our dogs do come from all different backgrounds (young, old, domestic transfers, international transfers, etc….), we must ensure they are healthy prior to adoption and also spayed/neutered (if of age*) to break the cycle of unwanted litters and pet overpopulation. The average spay/neuter cost here in the Denver area is between $250-$450 just in itself! Together, we can stop the pet overpopulation. I applied to adopt, now what? Please note that filling out an application does NOT mean you have been approved for adoption. We will review the applications and if we feel you are a good fit for the dog you are interested in, we will move forward with the adoption process. If we feel you are a great fit for an adopter, but just not for that specific dog, we will keep your application on file for future rescue pups needing homes. We will check your references, and once we feel you would make a great fit, we will schedule a phone screening. If approved to move forward, we will schedule a home check/meet and greet. Please note that just because you would have a meet and greet, you are NOT approved for adopting that dog. We have a strict policy for which dog ends up being adopted by which family. We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue. Meaning, if you are the very first person to apply, this does not mean you are a match. Our mission is to find each of our dogs their perfect home & we request you respect that.
