Dolly's Story

A mama and her 7 puppies came to JoJo's the day after the world lost Dolly Parton, so in her memory we named mama Dolly and her puppies after important people in Dolly's life. All of the puppies have found their forever home and now it is mama's turn.

The person who asked us to help this sweet girl and her babies had a history with her. Dolly had been at a shelter as part of a bunch of dogs who were pulled from a hoarding situation. They found a home for Dolly that seemed like it was going to be perfect for her. Unfortunately it was too far away for her to come back to the shelter to be spayed, but the adopter promised to have it done. Well, that never happened and Dolly ended up getting pregnant. The man who had adopted her was threatening to take her and the puppies to a shelter or dump her, so the person who helped her originally went back out to get her and her babies and she brought them to JoJo's. She found her in a deplorable situation, tied to a metal chair and cinder block that – at least when she went to get her – wasn't even within reach of her food or water. We are SO grateful that this kind person got involved, pressed hard to find help, and then brought her the 6 hour drive to us.

Initially Dolly seemed like she could be a little aggressive, but we now feel that was only because she was protecting her babies. She has been nothing but sweet with everyone she meets ever since she hasn't had babies to watch over.

She doesn't seem to have ever learned how to play (not too surprising given what she was rescued from,) but she has been going out to doggy daycare and is starting to get the hang of it. She may prefer to be an only dog as she really loves attention, but we feel she may do great with another dog – maybe her size or smaller as she seems to really love them. As long as her adopter is experienced in introducing dogs to each other and willing to be patient with her, we think she'd be good either way.

She is now spayed and fully vetted and ready for her forever family to find her. The person Dolly originally came from (the hoarding situation) did have a written record of when Dolly was born, so we believe we have the correct date of birth for her – May 25, 2023. She's a very nice size – not small, but on the smaller side of medium. She's not too tall and weighs 38 lbs. We do not have a reliable breed guess – her pointy ears and coloring look like maybe some Shepherd, but she's pretty small so mixed with a smaller breed? Please just look at her pictures and see what you think.

If you are interested in meeting Dolly, please email us at jojosdogrescue @gmail.com and we will send you an application, or download one from our website www.jojosdoghouse.com. Adoption fee is $250 and includes spay/neuter, up-to-date vaccinations, microchip, and parasite treatment and prevention. Thanks for choosing adoption!

Please visit our Facebook page JoJo's DogHouse (non-profit) to learn more about us and see many of the dogs we have rescued. We hope you'll join JoJo's family of adopters!
