Dolly's Story
Dolly will FINALLY be released from restricted activity in a couple of days, and she's ready to go to a new foster home, rescue partner, or forever home. Her current foster has had her since July, when she first had surgery to repair her shattered hind end. She's had a few setbacks: a stubborn infection, and slow to heal bone. She has what we hope is her FINAL appt with the vet on Wednesday and hoping he'll give her the go-ahead to start running, jumping and playing like the puppy she is. If you remember her story, she got away from her owners and they found her four days later cowering under the deck. She had a compound fracture In one leg, and multiple fractures all throughout her pelvis and other leg. We weren't contacted for a few days, and it took even longer to get her surrendered so we could get her treatment. By then she had a raging infection which made it that much more difficult to treat. She's been through a lot in her short life and really deserves smooth sailing from here on out, a loving home, and no more pain.

Unfortunately, she needs to be moved from her current situation, and we've had no interest in this beautiful girl. Her current foster has cared for her for almost 4 months, and has other responsibilities in her life that are going to make it impossible for her to continue giving Dolly the attention she will need. Dolly is still very young, probably less than a year. She's been isolated and restricted in activity for so long, and it's made her a little stir crazy. She's a little reactive when she sees new people or dogs. It looks like she just wants to play, but her foster hasn't tested her yet because she's not allowed to play. She's a little afraid when she meets new people, but she warms up. She reacts to most moving things such as deer, other dogs, or bicycles. I think she just hasn't been exposed to a lot and needs someone patient to work through all of these new experiences. She's very sweet and cuddly when she's comfortable, and she can be attentive and obedient. Very food motivated. She really needs someone who will continue working with her on her leash manners and reactivity. If a trainer needs to be hired to assist with this process, FPS can help with that. We're just waiting for the okay on Wednesday from her vet. If anyone can take Dolly and continue her education, please let me know. Or if you have any ideas for where she can go to continue her rehab. So far we have not had any bites from rescue partners, but I'm hoping that once she's declared 100% on Wednesday, we'll be able to find a rescue or forever home that will commit to her. This girl has so much potential and so many positives. She's spayed, current on all her vaccines, a compact 55 lbs or so. Please look at the pictures and video I took just today. She's gotten so much stronger and she's such a beautiful girl. Please message us or comment for more information on Dolly. Fostered in the Cortez, CO area.
