Dolce's Story
Dolce is a 2 year old boy who came to us from a local shelter listed as a Havenese mix. He probably has some shihtzu in him and perhaps some poodle based on his wavy fur. Dolce is red and white with a long tail and weighs about 18.5 lbs.

Dolce did not do well at the shelter. He was very timid and fearful, barking and growling at the staff, particularly male staff members. He was difficult to handle for examination and vaccination. He was enrolled in the shelter’s fear behavior modification program and placed on anxiety medication. Shelter personnel indicate that he was markedly more social and well behaved on his medication. The shelter felt he made great strides and adopted him out. He was returned to the shelter because the “adopter wasn’t able to care for him.” There were a few notes indicating that the adopter didn’t take him outside, resulting in accidents in the house and that the adopter had difficulty walking.

Dolce has been in rescue for two months. He was initially timid, but has become more social with time and experience. He probably was not well socialized as a puppy. He may not have had a wide variety of experiences with different people and situations. Shelter personnel indicated that he was fearful of some common things. Dolce’s groomer thought that he may have gotten into the habit of being the “alpha” with his original owner. He will do best with a patient, experienced adopter. Because of Dolce’s shelter history, we will not adopt him into a family with children. A confident canine companion might help Dolce get accustomed to new people and situations.

Dolce is neutered, up to date on vaccinations (rabies, distemper and kennel cough), vet checked, heartworm tested negative and on preventative while in rescue, and microchipped. If you would like to meet Dolce, go to cominischnauzerrescue.com and complete the on-line adoption application. We suggest that you print a copy of the application before you hit the “submit” button, just in case! We will give you a call to set up a time to bring Dolce for a visit. If you have completed an adoption application within the last 12 months, or have previously adopted from Vintage Dog Rescue and would like to meet Dolce, please let us know.
