Dodobird's Story
At 11 years young, Dodo is proving it is never too late for a second chance at life. For the first nine years of his life, Dodo lived in an outdoor kennel, kept isolated from people, dogs, and even the vet. Yet, despite a past that should have broken his spirit, this resilient, sweet boy has spent the last year learning how to be a family dog- his capacity for joy will absolutely break your heart in the best way possible. Don't let the "senior" label fool you; Dodo has a newborn zest for life! He possesses a joyful, bouncy energy that will absolutely melt you. He expresses his happiness in the most endearing ways-leaping right over his foster sister on his way out the door or enticing her to play by gently mouthing her back foot, or playing his signature game of tag, where he joyfully circles you before darting in to gently boop you with his nose. He has all the hops, jumps, and happy twirls of a puppy, just packaged in an older body that also loves a good afternoon nap. Though he is exceptionally smart, housebroken, and perfectly behaved when left alone, the big wide world can still feel a little scary to Dodo. Neighborhood walks are a work in progress but watching him bravely explore the backyard more and more each day is a joy.

Dodo's desire to love and be loved shines brightly through his large, soulful eyes and his lingering fears. He yearns for affection and with time he will gently approach you, pressing his cloud-soft, brindled fur against your hand or putting his nose in your lap. He is just waiting for a patient, loving soul to let him blossom at his own pace (and ideally, a dog sibling to continue showing him the ropes). Dodo spent nine years waiting in the dark. Please help us make sure the rest of his years are filled with the softest beds, the best treats, and a love that never fades. In an effort to help Dodo find his safe space, his adoption fee has been sponsored.
