Dixon's Story
Dixon is a small (45lb) 2-year-old Alaskan Husky Mix with a very sweet personality! We simply cannot understand why he hasn't found his person. He was previously in the shelter for over a month and a half, and was adopted out but surrendered to Alaska Underdogs for being "too much" for his adopter to handle. He is a bit timid in his foster home, but he loves pets and showing off his tricks, like "Shake," "Spin," and "Turn." He knows the basics, like "Sit" and "Down," and walks well on a leash with only minor corrections. We introduced him to the treadmill, and he absolutely LOVES it, so we know he would make a great hiking buddy! He rides well in the car in either a kennel or riding shotgun. His reactions towards other dogs are inconsistent: He does very well around calm dogs, and seems to want to play with rambunctious dogs, but has resorted to snapping when the other dog gets too personal and in-your-face. He did live with another dog in his former home. He has been muzzle-trained, so introductions with other dogs can be done in a safe manner. He has also been learning bed stays in his foster home. He doesn't have the typical Husky "talkativeness," he's actually very calm and quiet in a calm environment. He is kennel-trained, although it does take some coaxing to get him back out in a new environment! His foster has noted that he is very sensitive about his collar being touched, as well, and cries and cowers when you do. To work on that, as well as to become better socialized, he has attended classes at Alaska Dog Boarding & Training with his foster.
