Dill's Story
Dill is a sweet, silly 8 week old terrier mix that weighs 6 lbs. He is estimated to be around 45-50 lbs once he is full grown. Dill is best described as an affectionate, playful, curious, and hilariously entertaining. He has a calm, easygoing nature and adapts well to whatever his humans are doing. His go-with-the-flow personality makes him equally content joining in on outdoor adventures or relaxing at home by your side. He's very affectionate and loves to share his puppy kisses with his humans every chance he gets. He will crawl onto his foster mom's lap, put his paws on her chest and press his mouth right up to hers so she can give him kisses back. He is quiet and knows how to keep himself entertained with his toys and chew bones, so he's the perfect pup to be by your side as you work from home. He adores people and other doggy friends so if you work in a dog-friendly office, he'd love to join you. He loves to soak up all the attention, belly rubs, and cuddles he can get. He’s the kind of pup who can keep you laughing with his silly antics one moment, then melt into your lap for snuggles the next. His confident and curious nature is perfect for a family that enjoys outdoor activities, like exploring nature or going on hiking trails. He's even the type of pup that'll be happy to join you for brunch dates on a patio, going to farmer's markets, or spending time at friends' homes where he can play with their doggy friends. Dill's ideal family would be a mix of laid back and active. He's the type of companion that enjoys spending time outdoors and also doesn't mind having lazy days around the house watching movies and cuddling on the couch. Whether its relaxing on the porch soaking up the sunshine or going on leisurely walks on nature trails, he's always happy to be by your side.

Dill is low to medium energy. He enjoys a nice balance of playtime and relaxation, and is really good about entertaining himself with his toys and chew bones. His energy level will increase as he gets older, but he is overall pretty mellow. Currently he has short bursts of puppy energy followed by long naps. He loves playing with toys, romping around with his doggy friends, and cuddling on the couch with his foster mom. His favorite games are tug-o-war, chase, and play wrestling with his doggy friends. He would love to go to doggy day care a couple of days during the week or have doggy play dates if there are no other dogs in his forever home because he loves having fun with his furry friends. He also enjoys engaging in mental stimulation activities with his human, like hide and treat, treat dispensing toys, and snuffle mats. While he enjoys playing with his doggy and human friends, he’s also perfectly content to entertain himself with his favorite toys when he can't find anyone to play with. When he's ready for some down time, he will find a comfy spot in the living room to relax and chew on a bone. As he grows up, he would be a great pup to take on fun adventures exploring nature trails and going on longer hikes with his humans. He will need more practice and exposure to going to dog-friendly stores and outings in busy public places as he grows up to ensure he continues important socialization skills. He's the type of pup that would thrive in a family that enjoys the outdoors, but also enjoys some lazy days cuddling on the couch too. His ideal home will have a toy box full of squeaky toys, ropes, and chew toys, and he’d be thrilled to have a BarkBox subscription to keep the fun going with new surprises every month, especially now that he is about to start teething.

Dill is dog, cat, and kid friendly. He is currently in a foster home with both small and large sized dogs, and he loves them all. He especially loves the 7 lb. chihuahua that he romps around with and then finds the senior pittie in the home to curl up next to and nap. He is a social butterfly when it comes to making new dog friends and would benefit from having another confident, playful dog in his forever home. He has learned proper doggy communication skills and boundaries from his older doggy friends, and takes correction well if other dogs communicate that they are tired of his puppy antics. He will scamper off to find something else to play with instead when he can't find a doggy playmate. Because of his young age and friendly demeanor, he would be able to join a family that has a cat in the home. Since he is a silly, playful puppy, he would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before as he is a puppy and will want to play with them. Dill would do well with kids of all ages. He loves to play, cuddle, and share his sweet puppy kisses with everyone he meets. He is very gentle and sweet, and would be perfect for a family with kids. He is going to start teething soon, so his humans will need to keep a watchful eye on him to make sure he doesn't chew on human kid toys laying around. Oh, and he really likes to playfully grab ahold of your sock when you're walking around the house and thinks it is a fun game to be scooted across the tile floor. He may trip a smaller toddler just learning how to walk because of his love for chasing socks.

Dill is kennel trained, and is currently working on mastering potty training. He is too young to start leash training, but his foster mom will begin this soon. He sleeps in a kennel at night with no fuss, but enjoys a treat and some of his favorite toys as he settles in. When he gets older, he would love to snuggle up in bed with his humans every night so he can get in as many cuddles as possible. He is doing well with potty training and will use a potty pad if he needs to go and his foster mom doesn't let him out quick enough. He does need a consistent schedule and be taken out every few hours, so he will need someone who either works from home or that can take him to a dog-friendly office while he's still working on potty training. He is still learning to notify his foster mom that he needs to go out to potty, but he will run to the back door and start pacing when he needs to go outside. His foster mom will start working on leash training in the next couple of weeks once he is a little more coordinated, and he will need additional practice to perfect his leash walking skills in his forever home.

Dill's ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. He would do well in an apartment, condo or townhouse as long as he gets frequent exercise and potty breaks throughout the day. He is still learning how to go up and down stairs, but because he has little legs, he takes a while to make it up half way and his foster mom still helps him out. He won't mind stairs in his forever home once he gets older though. It is preferred that his human either works from home, can go home on lunch break to take him out, or can take him into a dog-friendly office while he is still young. He would also love to go to doggy day care a few times a week if there are no other dogs in the home so that he can have some fun playing with other doggy friends. No public dog parks for this little boy because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. He would do love to have a family that has other dogs and kids, and would coexist well if there's a kitty in the home too. With his adaptable, laid back nature, he would be a wonderful fit for a variety of households. His ideal family is one that wants a playful pup to join in on fun outdoor adventures and also cuddle up on the couch after. Dill is ready to give his whole heart to a family who will love him just as much in return. If you’re looking for a pup who will be your shadow, your cuddle buddy, and your best little friend, Dill is the perfect match for you.

Dill is in a foster home in Central Texas. He can be adopted and transported to the following cities/states: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/transport-locations

This is a courtesy post for LAPP Dog Rescue. If you are interested in adopting Dill, please fill out an application at: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application.

TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back.

Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets.

The cost to adopt is $830 - $850, which includes $400 adoption fee, a $230 - $250 transport fee, and a $200 refundable neuter deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/heartworm prevention, health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, plus any necessary vet care while in the rescue's care. The $200 refundable neuter deposit will be paid directly to the adopter's vet before the neuter appointment once he is old enough to undergo the procedure. The transport fee for PNW transports is $250. Transport for all other states is $230.

You can see more pictures of Dill on our website: https://www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/dill
