DIGGER - ARRIVES IN MAINE JANUARY 24TH's Story

This is an incredible rescue story.

We are excited to be the next safe chapter for a brave mama and her five babies who have already survived more than most dogs ever should. Their journey to us is one built on instinct, determination, teamwork, and an incredible refusal to give up.

They will be arriving at Caleb’s Opus on January 24th, and from that moment on, it becomes our mission to do what we do best: help them heal, grow, and find the forever homes they so deeply deserve.

Below is their story — and it deserves to be shared just as it is:

“Meet Charlotte and her miracle little family
This sweet black Lab mama was doing everything she could to protect her five babies at a concrete plant in East Tennessee. She found them in a den and raised them the best way she knew how — but as the pups grew, the danger grew too.

At around 13–14 weeks old, these babies started venturing out… straight toward active train tracks, steep mountains of concrete mix, and heavy industrial equipment. We didn’t quit. We couldn’t quit. And finally, on the 17th hour, Charlotte and all five of her babies were safe.

These are smart, sweet, resilient little babies who never should have had to survive something like this — but they did. And now, because of teamwork, determination, and a mama who never gave up, their future is finally bright.

Welcome to safety, Charlotte and babies. Your story is just beginning.”

As they make their way north, we want to be transparent about where they are now — these babies experienced fur loss due to parasites, environmental exposure, and poor nutrition. The good news? Most of them have already grown their fur back beautifully, and the rest are well on their way with just a little more to go. What they lacked before, they are finally receiving now: medical care, nourishment, warmth, and love.

When Charlotte and her babies arrive, we will take the next step — finding them families who will never let them know fear again. Families who will see their resilience, honor their past, and give them the safe, happy future they fought so hard to reach.

Would you like to adopt DIGGER?
