Didi in Plymouth, Michigan's Story

Meet DiDi – A Tiny Survivor with a Big Heart:
6 years old and 10 lbs.
Every once in a while, a dog like DiDi comes along—one who has faced the world with quiet courage, who has endured so much yet holds onto the spark of something more. DiDi is not your typical lap dog, but she is something just as beautiful: a gentle soul who is learning, at her own pace, what it means to feel safe and loved.

Rescued from a life in a puppy mill, Didi is just beginning to experience the warmth of a real home. She is not the kind of dog who will come running to you for belly rubs or kisses—but she will be the dog who watches you with curiosity from her favorite chair, quietly following you from room to room, determined not to miss a single moment. She’s even been caught falling asleep sitting up, too stubborn to close her eyes while life unfolds around her.

DiDi is a quiet observer of people and a devoted companion to other dogs. She doesn't yet seek out affection, but she’s bravely learning to accept gentle touches and is even taking treats directly from her foster’s hand. She doesn’t want to be held—yet—but she’s making progress every day. With trust and time, she may blossom further, but DiDi will always be a dog’s dog. For this reason, a calm home with at least one well-balanced canine companion (or two!) is not just recommended—it’s essential. Her heart attaches deeply to her chosen dog friend, and she will rely on that bond to navigate her new life.

DiDi walks beautifully on a leash and enjoys strolls through the neighborhood. She’s great with other small dogs, and while she hasn't played with them much yet (likely due to past pain), there are glimpses that a playful side is ready to emerge now that she’s healing.

This brave little girl recently underwent surgery (FHO) to repair a severely damaged hip, a condition she likely suffered from most of her life. Despite the pain she endured, DiDi never lost her gentle nature. Her recovery is going incredibly well—she’s no longer in pain, and she’s on track to regain full function. There may always be a little “hitch” in her gait, but no further medical intervention is expected. Her spirit is unshaken, and she’s even been conquering water-treadmill rehab like a champ!

DiDi needs a very special adopter—someone who understands that love doesn’t always look like cuddles and wagging tails. Someone patient, gentle, and understanding of her past. Someone with another friendly dog (or more), no small children, and a quiet home where she can continue to grow at her own pace.
If you're looking for a dog who will teach you about resilience, quiet bravery, and the beauty of gaining trust one tiny step at a time—DiDi might just be your perfect match. Everyone who meets her falls a little in love, and once she chooses you, that bond will be something truly special.

If you are interested in a adopting, please go to the HALO web site at http://www.RescuedHavanese.org. Didi is up-to-date on all her medical and her adoption will take place in her foster home in Plymouth, Michigan. Her adoption fee is $450.
