Dickie Doodle's Story

Dickie is a gorgeous, burnt orange and black 11 month old German shepherd who was found by animal control as a country stray and landed himself in doggy jail (a kennel). For anyone who knows GSDs, kennel environments keep them ramped up and in their working zone so Dickie sent out an SOS to find a more laid back environment.

Now in a country foster home, Dickie has been able to decompress and focus on feeling things in a calmer way, not the amped up kennel way. He loves his crate where he can be mellow and relaxed which has really made a difference to his level of chill and allowed his kind personality to shine through. Even though he was intact on arrival, Dickie integrated well with all his foster brothers and sisters and after his neuter, he has continued to show great social and play skills with small dogs, and big dogs, males and females, .

Dickie is the perfect size at approximately 60 lbs. He is fabulous offleash and given the choice, he's going to be following his person out and about cutting wood, doing the horses, going for walks, and just hanging out. Dickie is friendly and polite with every person he meets and jogs up to meet them with a grin on his face and a wagging tail. He would love a family to call his own since it seems his first family didn't feel he was a keeper.

While Dickie may have a bit of another breed in his mix, he checks the box to typical GSD breed characteristics - intelligent, quick to learn, loyal, sensitive, and he has that deep bark that is a breed giveaway. But he also has non typical GSD characteristics such as being open and welcoming to strangers, good with dogs (though he will rush into the initial greeting), not protective of his home or people (but don't mess with his dinner in his crate). This boy is the full package of kind, intelligent and wanting to please.

If you are a GSD fan, this boy would make an awesome addition to a country lifestyle where he has the ability to exercise and interact with his environment and his people. Dickie is looking for a German shepherd smart home where his large brain and stamina are embraced, not stifled.

Everyone who meets Dickie falls in love with him. He's gorgeous. He's super interactive. He loves people. He is playful and fun with dogs. He's athletic. He's grateful. He's ready for commitment from people who are ready to do right by him.

Dickie is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, dewormed, and microchipped. His adoption fee $750.

Adoption process includes application, virtual home visit, phone interview, reference check, meet & greet, adoption contract and $750 adoption fee.

***Fill out the ADOPTION APPLICATION at:
https://signup.ifaw.org/en-ca/northern-dogs-adoption-application-form

Dickie awaits!

Northern Dogs Project's Adoption Policy
Northern dogs are not a breed but a lifestyle. Until recently most dogs were free roaming but communities are now making changes to how they want to coexist with dogs and many are now tying. Dogs are all identified by Animal Care and are adopted to families in the south as family members only. Northern dogs are smart, experienced, dog social, have been handled by kids, feel safe with women, and are slightly unsure of men at first. Dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (core vaccines DAPP and rabies), microchipped and dewormed.
