Dexter's Story

ered to an overpopulated shelter in LA. He was facing euthanasia due the excessive amount of surrenders, and due to his breed, causing less interest in his adoption. He is now making his way to Canada to find his forever home!

Dexter is a typical goofy, energetic and happy young pup. He loves people, and wants to play, cuddle and interact with them. He is very affectionate! Being in the shelter at a young age, he did not get the chance to have all of the puppy training he should have had by now. He still needs work with his potty training, and for general manners. Because of his jumpy energy and strength, we don’t recommend placing him with young children. Dexter loves all other dogs, of all sizes, but he can be a bit much for some of them as he still doesn’t know how to manage his excitement. He would be best as the only pet in the home, at least until he has learnt this skill.

Dexter will need time to decompress in his new home. He has moved a few times, and been neutered, and as a younger high energy dog he is, understandably, not a fan of his mandatory rest period. When he is excited, Dexter can get mouthy - and he is strong! He does NOT mean any harm, but he needs to learn that this isn’t a behaviour that is appreciated. Dexter wants to do things - he wants to go on adventures, run around, maybe even take a hike with you if you will have him. He would not be happy in a home where all he does is a few walks and play in the yard. A home that has experience with dogs would be best, he isn’t a great dog for first time owners. His future family must be ready for this, and also be ready to continue his training. They will need to take the time to dedicate to Dexter, to help make him be the best dog he can be!
