Dexter's Story

Hello, My name is Dexter. I have a questionable history and was originally found by MACC. I have physical scars down my belly and legs that have healed up nicely, ya can’t hardly tell. I still have a few quirks because of my past but they mostly show up at the doctor’s office. I don’t like my nails cut at all as I will have to be sedated or walked on concrete to keep them naturally filed down. I also do not like my temperature taken. I have to be muzzled for that. I do better when I am in the room with my family versus taken to “the back”. I eat everything…I mean everything from tissue out of the trash can to lettuce and anything else dropped in the kitchen. It’s best you keep me out of the kitchen so you don’t trip on me cuz I will be right under your feet. I don’t like it when my family gets sick. I stay right by them to help them feel better while they nap and give kisses. I want to use you for a pillow but I’m good laying next to you or curled up at the end of the recliner. I am crate trained and potty trained – when I go to the door I need to go outside to potty. I love playmates as I am a medium energy level pup. I need to keep active with my people or have a playmate, otherwise I find myself stuff to do that gets me into trouble. I consider myself quite the lady’s man so no bro’s for me. Too much competition! I have been around cats but I am a little too rough for them. My foster mom tells me to stop chasing them and leave them alone all of the time. I have a BIG voice! There is no such thing as an inside voice. Haha I love bigger kids that I can play with since I play rough and have to be told ‘easy’ when I get wound up. When I don’t listen, play time is over. The nylabone and kong toys last the longest. I still eat them but they take me a while. High value treats need to be given to me in the crate, it’s my safe space. I don’t want anyone to take those away from me. I walk okay on a leash. We haven’t practiced that much since my foster mom has a fenced in yard. My recall is a hit or a miss so a fenced in yard is best. I need firm boundaries to keep me in line in my family pack. Since I’m so stubborn, I need an experienced dog owner that will help me be the best friend I can be.
