Please arrive at the shelter before 4pm on our open adoption days to meet me!<br/>My Friends at Wayside say: <br/>-I am enrolled in LIFT University. This is a program for dogs to build confidence in new situations and work on managing energy. My adoption comes with a free 30-minute private training session.<br/>-During my time at Wayside, I have enjoyed being around other dogs. <br/>-I’m smart and food/treat motivated<br/>- I have displayed some touch sensitivities. Ask our staff for more info!<br/>- Balls, squeaky toys, rope toys, I love them all! <br/>-A lot of play/pets can be too exciting for me—let’s keep it short and watch my<br/>body language!<br/>-I am eligible for a Slumber Pawty, a 7-10 day in-home trial period. Please visit our website for additional information. <br/><br/>My home needs are: <br/>- I need a home with kids 6 years old and older since I tend to be nervous around new people and loud noises. <br/>-For my safety, I need to go home on an anti-slip collar called a martingale collar. For your convenience, we sell them in our retail store, Whiskers and Wags.<br/>-Wayside recommends that I go home with another playful dog to help me release my energy.<br/>-I must meet other dogs in the home before adoption to ensure that we can be buddies.<br/>-Wayside recommends that I have a fenced-in yard so I have a secure area to release my energy.<br/><br/>Check out my super cool new video! Scroll through my photos to watch it.<br/><br/>Hiya, I’m Dexter! <br/><br/>I’m a 9-month-old Shepherd mix with a big heart, a lovable goofball energy, and a serious passion for life! I’m also a super smart guy who loves to learn. Right now, I’m enrolled in the LIFT University program, which just means I’m a smart pup working on a few extra life skills. I'm learning how to navigate the world when my fear tendencies kick in, and I'm practicing taking a deep breath and using low impulse control when I get super excited about everything around me. I take my studies very seriously, especially if you have a pocket full of snacks!<br/><br/>When I’m off the clock, my absolute favorite thing in the world is playland. I am completely head-over-paws obsessed with toys, but squeaky toys hold an extra special place in my heart. Squeaking them, tossing them, and showing off my prize catches around the room is my specialty. After I’ve burned off some of that puppy energy and had a good play session, my sweet side shines right through. I’ll come trot right over to you and get quite cuddly when I’m ready for some love and affection.<br/><br/>Here’s the most important thing to know about my dream forever home: I am crazy about other dogs! Being around fellow pups brings me so much joy, and honestly, they give me the extra confidence I need to feel brave in new situations. Because I rely so much on canine buddies to show me the ropes, I must go home with another social, friendly dog. I also need to meet my potential dog siblings here at the shelter first just to make sure we’re going to be best friends.<br/><br/>If you have a social dog at home who needs a fun-loving brother, plenty of squeaky toys, and a little patience to help me keep learning, I might just be your guy!
