Devo's Story
Devo is a 6-year-old survivor with the softest eyes and the gentlest soul. He came from a situation where he didn’t receive the medical care or behavioral support he deserved, and the world can still feel like a very big, scary place to him. But underneath that fear is a tender, sensitive boy who is slowly learning that he’s safe.

When Devo arrived, he was battling demodectic mange and had significant dental disease. He bravely underwent major dental surgery (losing quite a few teeth in the process), and his beautiful coat is still growing back in. Despite everything he’s been through, he eats his meals just fine — in fact, he loves food! Treats, snacks, chewy bones — you name it. Devo is highly food motivated, which has been such a helpful tool as he starts to build trust and confidence.
Devo is very afraid of human touch and needs a lot of time to warm up to new people. Trust doesn’t come quickly for him — but it does come. In his foster home, he’s been taking baby steps every day. A glance that lingers a little longer. Staying in the same room. Accepting treats a bit closer. These small victories are huge for Devo.

What truly lights him up? Other dogs.
Devo absolutely loves canine companionship and would thrive in a home with another confident, friendly dog to show him the ropes. He takes so much comfort in following their lead and feels safest when he’s not alone. He also does well with the cat in his foster home — in fact, he’s a little nervous around her!
Devo will need an incredibly patient, understanding home committed to helping him learn what it means to just be a dog. He’s still working on leash walking and learning that going outside to potty is a normal (and safe!) routine. His future family will need to move at his pace, celebrate the smallest wins, and allow him the time and space he needs to blossom.

Devo may not be the dog who runs up for cuddles right away. He may not know how to ask for affection yet. But for the person willing to give him patience, consistency, and love, watching him come out of his shell will be the most rewarding journey.

He’s already survived so much. Now he just needs someone to show him that the rest of his story can be full of safety, kindness, and maybe a few extra treats along the way.
