Meet Deuce ❤️<br/><br/>Deuce is a big, sweet boy who has spent the past few weeks at Oh My Dog learning something he desperately needed: how to decompress, feel safe, and trust again.<br/><br/>For the past five years, Deuce has been bounced around from home to home, and that kind of instability has left him feeling unsure of the world around him. He is incredibly sweet with people, but when he feels uncertain—especially on leash—he can be reactive. He hasn’t had much structure, training, or guidance in his life, so we’ve been working with him on all of those things.<br/><br/>And he is learning. ❤️<br/><br/>We’ve been working with Deuce on leash manners, learning how to walk nicely on a leash, and understanding what is expected of him when he’s out in the world. One of his biggest accomplishments has been learning to use the treadmill. Previous owners and fosters had struggled to walk him, but with the right tools, calm confidence, consistency, and understanding of what Deuce is communicating, he’s discovered that exercise doesn’t have to be stressful.<br/><br/>The treadmill has been a huge outlet for him and has helped him tremendously.<br/><br/>Deuce is a BIG boy, and he needs a person who is comfortable being a calm, confident leader. He doesn’t need someone to coddle his insecurities—he needs someone who can recognize them, provide structure, and show him that he is safe. Deuce thrives when someone else is confidently making the decisions for him and giving him clear expectations.<br/><br/>As he transitions into his next foster or forever home, Deuce will need to continue using a Power Loop or Snoot Loop for walks. These tools have helped him tremendously, and his trainers will work with his next foster or owner to make sure they understand how to properly and confidently use the equipment. We don’t expect his next person to figure everything out on their own—we want to set both Deuce and his person up for success.<br/><br/>Deuce currently spends his days and nights at our facility and is around many dogs. He doesn’t need to be best friends with every dog, though, and he is selective about who he actually plays with. We think his ideal home would either be:<br/><br/>🐾 A home where he is the only dog, with someone committed to continuing his training and helping him build confidence around other dogs, or<br/><br/>🐾 A home with a calm, compatible small female dog who understands boundaries and doesn’t overwhelm him.<br/><br/>Deuce is treadmill trained, muzzle trained, and learning more every day. He has already shown us that underneath the insecurity and big feelings is a really sweet dog who wants to feel safe and understood.<br/><br/>He has been through a lot of changes in his five years, and we want his next chapter to be different. He deserves someone who is willing to give him the consistency, structure, patience, and leadership he’s been missing.<br/><br/>Because once Deuce trusts you, you’ll see just how much love this big boy has to give. ❤️<br/><br/>Deuce isn’t looking for just any home. He’s looking for the right person—someone confident enough to lead him, patient enough to earn his trust, and committed enough to continue helping him become the dog we know he can be.
