DENNIS Dutch Shepherd & Pit Bull Terrier Mix TULSA, OK

Many locals know our sweet Dennis. After a major injury brought him to our attention fall of 2022, our team spent 13 weeks, many nights, a lot of time, money, and anxiety trying to catch him. We tried seriously everything and this dog was just too smart for his own good. In the many nights we slept on the streets with him. Waiting for him....we saved 18 other lives that showed up to our traps all over town.

Dennis was just afraid, and after an entire evening of my friends and I sleeping on the cold ground and Dennis never coming to eat, Norman a local trapper caught him the next morning. Turns out he was just watching us from a distance and waiting for us to leave. He was so hungry by the time we left he didn't even notice Norman lurking and he caught him in a 10x10 with a rope. He was rushed to the vet and had his horrible infected leg amputated. At first...we were worried Dennis was just gonna be a disaster of a dog.

He wasn't at all. It was quickly apparent that he'd been in a home before, loved, trained, and then discarded. He was so affectionate with everyone, dogs, cats, kids included. But he sat stagnant in our program for MONTHS. We would get application after application and he was stood up every single time.

Finally a family came along and took Dennis home on a trial. He was great, friendly and playful with their dog but unfortunately his separation anxiety got him a one way ticket right back to boarding because of apartment life. He was so good but just not for them.

Dennis requires a home that he will be treated as royalty and never will he ever know abandonment, starvation, Injury, boarding or unwanted in a very unforgiving world ever again. Unfortunately, his sheppie instincts have kicked in and he's no longer cat friendly as the dogs he was fostered with taught him that cats are food not friends. Dennis the menace can open doors, gates, and is extremely smart, but if he loves you, he has no desire to leave his home. He cannot jump fences thankfully!
