Demi's Story

NOTE: Demi has been DNA tested and is a mix of many breeds!. In addition to the first two breeds noted in her profile, other breeds include Golden Retriever, Super Mutt, Malamute, and German Shepherd Dog.

Demi’s story began with a feral mama, and while her three siblings were naturally bold, Demi was the more thoughtful, sensitive soul of the group. Thanks to weeks of dedicated work with a professional trainer and the love of her foster family, Demi has grown into a truly wonderful companion who continues to blossom every day.

Demi will thrive best in a home with another confident, friendly dog (or dogs) who can help guide her and build her confidence. She takes great comfort in canine companionship and especially bonds with dogs who are people-friendly and self-assured. A patient, loving family willing to give Demi the time and space she needs to relax and feel safe will be rewarded with an incredible dog.

Meeting Demi
When meeting new people, Demi can feel unsure at first. During meet-and-greets, she may stick close to her foster parents, hide behind them, or vocalize her nerves. She typically isn’t ready for treats or petting right away. Calm walks alongside her foster family help her settle and start to feel more comfortable—this gentle approach sets her up for success.

The Transition Home
Demi adjusts at her own pace, and once she does, her personality shines. With her foster mom, she settled in within a couple of days; with her foster dad, about a week. After that first week, she was relaxed enough to play and comfortable with everyday routines like leashing and unleashing.

To help Demi feel secure during the transition:
• Keeping her leash on initially helps avoid any fear around handling
• She should remain leashed for outdoor trips until she’s fully settled
• Crating or gently tethering her nearby helps strengthen bonding and confidence

Visitors & Guests
Demi is not a social butterfly—and that’s okay! She’s happiest when given a quiet, safe space away from the hustle and bustle of guests. Her foster family has found success by giving her options such as a crate, a “place,” or a separate room where she can relax without pressure. With regular visitors, Demi can build comfort over time through consistent, low-pressure interactions and bonding.

Once She’s Settled…
This is where Demi truly shines ✨
Once she feels safe and secure, Demi is an absolute joy to live with:
• Fully house-trained and politely asks to go out
• Sleeps peacefully at the foot of the bed all night
• Well-mannered, calm, and easygoing in the home
• Plays independently or with other dogs and people
• Enjoys fetch and frisbee in short bursts, followed by joyful zoomies and toy-tossing in the yard
• Can entertain herself with appropriate toys
• Doesn’t love her crate, but does well with toys and chews when needed
• When people are home, she happily relaxes on the couch, on “place,” or takes naps

The Bottom Line
Demi is a gentle, sensitive, and incredibly special dog who just needs the right environment to continue growing. With patience, love, and a confident canine friend, she will reward her forever family with loyalty, sweetness, and quiet joy. Once Demi trusts you, she is truly amazing.

If you’re looking for a devoted companion and have the heart to let a shy dog bloom, Demi may be your perfect match.
